Whenever I try enabling someone to the game, or whenever someone is interested, one of the questions they always ask is, "But what is it about?"

I realize this game is very much a sandbox that actively encourages its characters/players to start their own plots, and gives a ton of freedom to players towards that end to design them, and I find that to be one of the game's best features. But in terms of the overall metaplot and story, there's no real place to see what that is, or learn more about it, which can cause a lot of newcomers to the game to feel lost. That was one of the major complaints I've always seen in the past, and I can definitely see how and why that feeling came about.

I'd be the last person to ever suggest changing the game's formula - I for one love many of the player-run plots that have happened in the game - but I would suggest a premise page, and definitely a bit more information about the game's metaplot. There was one going on a long time ago, but it's been so long since anything happened with it that honestly, the mods would be completely justified story-wise in just aborting that arc and starting an entirely new one. I'd definitely cite this thread as one of the finer points of the old metaplot, if you need an example.

This is actually one of the things that we're working on! Since we've had mod team changes, we've been starting to work on a long list of things that are due for updates, improvements, and additions. Creating a clear image of what this game is and making it easier to access information about the game are both tasks on our list, so you can look forward to this problem being solved soon! Unfortunately, we do have quite a few things to go through so it may take a little bit of time, but we expect by a month's time most if not all things should be fixed.

As for the metaplot, we'll also seek to look into something happening in the game bit by bit and will review the link that you posted (as unfortunately, neither of us were here on the dates of that post it looks like!)

Possible New Newspaper?

I'm interested in Aya starting up her own newspaper again in this world, but I'm not too sure what levels it would become. Let alone the fact that there's already the paperboy here anyway unless she'd become a rival company.


...Also would it be possible to have Aya's building be her place of residence (provided she makes enough *'s for it) since she usually sleeps in the same place her work is.

Okay I've been trying to think about how to get this to work out well and there are some options:

1. Aya could establish her own newspaper as a rival company, like you said. You would be in charge of all content and when she released the paper. It would not affect the Genessia Tribune, but you would be welcome to have it delivered by the following methods:

a. Paperboy if it is a Sunday release and you would be welcome to PM the newspaper to genpcs when you release it.
b. The Papergirl is also available and you would be welcome to PM the newspaper to genpcs when you release it. This would give you the option of having a different delivery/release date/post than the Genessia Tribune.
c. Aya can self-deliver and just make regular posts for it herself.

2. Aya can join as a writer for the weekly release of the newspaper. Due to events soon to be described in an events announcement post, they are coming out irregularly, but anything that you would like to have submitted for her as a writer would be due Saturdays at 11:59pm EST via a PM to genpcs with a subject line that says "Genessia Tribune Article." She will be listed on the employment page and paid *** for being a primary journalist/contributor (with experience).

If you have any other ideas, I'd be glad to hear them so that we can try to fit your and your character's needs as best as possible! As for her place of residence, that's completely acceptable. You can either have her run her business out of an apartment or have an apartment installed on top of her building for her newspaper if you choose to do that.

Um, hello, me again.

So sorry if this is a really petty thing to be bothering you about, but when I'm looking at the entries through the main Genessia page and click on "comment" it automatically takes me to the reply mode. I gather just clicking the number will show you the existing comments, but as I tend to click "comment" automatically to see what comments are there, it gets really irritating that I keep being sent to reply mode.

Just wondering if there was an easy fix for it on either my end or yours? Sorry again for pestering you about something so niggly.

Unfortunately, there isn't a fix for this. Some layout base styes have a separate post link in addition to the reply/comment link (usually it says "link" with hover text of link to post), but genessia's layout is coded off a Flexible Squares base, which doesn't have the post link option. However, if you click on the title of posts within the community, it will take you to the post itself. You'll just have to scroll through the content of the post to get to the comments.

Hi, I've got a friend trying to enable me for this game and I'm super tempted but I'd like to ask something regarding a character I'm interested in playing. I read the FAQ multiple times and I didn't see anything about this type of character so I hope it's not a stupid question!

This character was the main protagonist in a game, but he never spoke in-game (aside from "Yes" or "No" prompts for player choice when the character is spoken to), he appeared in some cut scenes but only his body was visible (his face was always obscured) and he doesn't have a real name so the only name he's known by is his Air Force callsign and nicknames. Would a character like this be permitted after filling in the blanks of appearance and personality (while following canon as closely as possible so not to contradict it), or would this potentially put him into 'fandom OC' territory? I know I saw some characters in Genessia already that never spoke in their canons, but I wanted to make sure if a faceless/silent protagonist was okay.

Questions about Money for Gil

I'm just wondering though, but since Gilgamesh technically has all of his world's own riches within his Gates of Babylon, would he therefore not need to worry about any employment at all? I'm just wondering on this based on how to play someone with such ready access to everything he owns.

Since none of the residents can reach outside of the world of Genessia for presently undisclosed reasons, he would only have access to it if he opened up a subarchway to an area where his riches are. If he does open a subarchway to the space he keeps his treasure, he will be able to summon said riches to anywhere within Genessia. Unless he does that, he will not have access to his riches and will need to find other means of income.

Just answered this for you over AIM, but the pods are not too much bigger than the people inside of them. If it's close to her size, it might be able to fit, but may be very difficult to get out without any damage.

I have a question in regards to a character leaving the game. Can they choose to leave Genessia by their free will and what would happen exactly if they do leave on their own free will from Genessia?

That also leads me to asking if that is also a possible choice, since I am planning on dropping Ishtar from the game, but I want her to end her CRs with some characters cleanly before she fully leaves the game. I wanted to know if that was possible and what the process would be if that were possible. If it's not possible then I would like to see what I can do with her before ejecting her from the game.

A character cannot leave the game of their own free will, as their is no way of getting outside of the barriers protecting the cities. It can be assumed that when a character is dropped, they are removed from the cities by the powers that be.

Youkai Hunger

(Posting the question her to since plurk is being super drunk and this could be relevant and fun to more than just SatoriMun and I getting an official word on this might help. The question I have is rather specific but having a final answer on this concept may help other muns that are in a similar pickle regarding the NPCs without having to necessarily pester you guys :P)

At Touhoucon I learned a lot about the youki and setting of Touhou and the roots and actual myths of the different characters/what they're based off of that western people may or may not be aware of (and may never be aware of due to how open Touhou tends to be). It may seem silly that I didn't know this but youkai absolutely need to be feared/known by humans and/or to eat human flesh to survive (some need additional abstract qualities but more on that later). It varies a bit from story to story and from youkai to youkai. Even in different instances of the same story it can vary immensely. So because its so flexible it will only affect players of youkai from Touhou Project (or perhaps youkai in general) that choose to let it affect them. I wouldn't normally question something like this but the whole everglade event made me realize that this concept could possibly be a big deal for the youkai it applied to (or the ones their muns let it affect).

What I want to know is would the fear/known quality of the NPCs provide sustenance for youkai that need it? And would these NPCs provide whatever abstract quality a youkai would need if applicable? For example, in the fanworks OsanaReimu and ReiReimu, the youkai Rumia was interpreted as a "flesh eating youkai" but what she was really after was the darkness a person has experienced in their life.

I understand there may be settings where a creature absolutely needs emotion or whatnot to survive and if they don't want to deal with this it could just as easily be said that the false emotion generated by the NPCs is enough to sustain them. I know this seems to invalidate this whole thing but having an official final word on this matter will make it easier for those who do have a trait that could be affected by this to use it as an opportunity for CR when such a thing might otherwise e dismissed due to how infrequently its addressed in settings.

This is also going on the assumption the NPCs are physically human enough that their flesh would count as a passable human for a youkai that needs to eat people to survive.

Overall, from what I've seen, NPCs wouldn't have the emotional potency to sustain this type of need, but I wanted to make entirely sure with you guys. I think that something like this might open up some neat CR options or those who choose to let it affect them by either encouraging either some player-run shenanigans in order to create fear or some strong CR because of what they must do in order to survive.

Additionally, this might have some small ripple effects in that the affected youkai might realize the NPCs aren't real people a bit sooner than they might have otherwise. I've thought about it for awhile and I can't see this having any major huge impact though.

Additionally, this concept can apply to anyone who comes in with a kami that requires faith to survive. Is the false-faith of the NPCs enough to sustain them?


TL:DR- Do NPC emotions count as "real people" emotions?

Some youkai need to be feared/known to survive and/or to eat human flesh. Are the NPCs real enough/count as having enough emotional capacity to sustain the youkai that need fear or acknowledgement because it would provide some awesome CR opportunity if it could NOT sustain them. And due to the flexibility of youkai and their concepts this sort of thing would remain purely optional at least in regards to what I have presented here.

I just wanted to clear it 100% with you guys before talking with a few parties I know would be interested in this kinda thing so I don't overstep my bounds.

They don't technically count as "real people" emotions. However, it would work temporarily. Eating some of the non-player characters would probably be like eating partial proteins for vegetarians. You have to eat more than one to get the whole effect (like peanuts and beans or whole grains and rice). Eating just one won't last as long and will likely not feel satisfying. Over time, it will become more and more obvious that it is not the same as the actual thing and may not seem to scratch the need they have as well. To prevent them from needing to eat anyone for players who do not want to go this route, it can be said that it is a dissatisfaction that is still possible to deal with if a little willpower is involved.

If they need to eat human flesh and not have a link to the associated emotions, however, eating the NPCs would sustain them just fine.

It's already a known fact in-game that those without pendants are not "real people" though there are occasionally some who disagree or would like more proof, so though they would not "realize it" sooner than anyone else, they would be able to act as fact checkers of sorts for anyone who is curious and OK with Touhous eating people to find out.

(This is just a note for clarity to anyone reading this so that they know it is not a blanket statement about youkai:) This effect will not affect youkai in general as that is not how youkai work outside of Touhou Project (in myth some do but not the majority and many fandoms containing youkai do not hold to a need to eat humans either), but those within Touhou Project cast may use this as a guide for survival means.

The spirits only reveal themselves and communicate when they wish to. At the current time, none of the spirits see fit to appear among the people of the city. Satsuki and co can return to where the spirits were encountered, but they will find the places empty.

Player-plot: Questions!

Adachi currently has a player plot on the way where he's kidnapping poor unfortunate souls to the TV World subarchway. I had a couple of questions regarding this.

1) TV World consists of dungeon. In the games the world provides dungeons for one kidnapped person at a time (because no one ever kidnaps more than one person at a time). The fact is that I wonder if it would be possible to tweak this a little for the possibility of multiple kidnapped persons to be in at the same time in different dungeons.

To clarify; Adachi basically gets BS powers upon entering the TV World since for some reason it seems to like him. So, I was wondering if that power could work in the archway and he could make it that there's on dungeon, but each floor holds a captive - so that the floors look different? It's clear he can edit the dungeon he's in how he wants, such as rules and such; so he could also make it that each floor can only have a set amount of people for rescue.

2) When people die in the TV World in canon, they get tossed out into a bizarre position in the town they live (Inaba). I was wondering how that would work here? Would Adachi himself have to get the bodies out and toss them somewhere to recreate the crime scene?

Hey, I have here a character that sort of skirts the line between "canon character" and "fandom OC" and I wanted to get the mods' opinion of how best to handle him. Namur here has appeared in both the manga and the anime of One Piece as one of the Whitebeard Pirates. Canonically speaking, that's the core of who and what he is, and basically, that's all he is. Another fighter that got drawn a couple of times.

The thing is, because it's fun to play with friends, and I have a couple of pals who play some of the more prominent Whitebeards, I wanted someone who fit into that group. Thus, this guy's personality, his personal history, and pretty much everything else about him came to be- making him for the most part an OC.

I can't really cut his ties to canon characters in order to fulfill that quid pro quo of apping a fandom OC here, but I've never felt entirely comfortable calling him a "canon" character, either. There's just not enough that's strictly canon for him to be playable.

He has been played in several other comms as a fandom OC, but none of them had that specific of a rule regarding character relationships. Thus why I'm messaging you now. Do you guys think he could still join as a fandom OC, due to the connections to canon characters being also canon? Would he fit better as an (Obscure) Canon Character? Would he be just simply ineligible for play here at Genessia?

Full Disclosure: I intend to have him join with some previous-game CR with both Marco and Grell, so that's something to take into account as well. I completely understand if that's a little too much.

The mod (Tay/me) who was running both of those things had some problems over the last couple of months with keeping up with everything (add in a new full time job, moving out, getting sick, brother getting out of prison, and loads of other "fun" and it becomes hard to keep up with much beyond tags). Some stuff slipped and I take full responsibility. I'm working on catching everything up and getting the main plot continued, as well as charm events and more. I'm sincerely sorry about the whole mix-up.

I'm still trying to figure out what to do about the labyrinth plot that I am well aware I wholly missed and forgot about until a month after it happened, but because the game just went on without it and a lot of the signed up players are no longer involved in the game, I'm not exactly sure how to deal with that and am trying to figure out a solution.

My character is a bit of a workaholic and wants to work at a bare minimum of three different jobs.

Attorney, doctor, and small business owner.

She plans to use her small business to get enough experience in Genessia to open her own Law Firm. Until then, she wants to open and run a tea shop. I can't really figure out a way for her to canonically ignore the job of a Lawyer and Doctor. She's canonically a noblewoman who worked and studied hard enough to become a lawyer and then court magistrate, and she's the best healer in Fire Emblem: Awakening. Her son keeps begging her to teach him everything she knows in the field of medicine but she insists on teaching him the violin and the finer points of nobility.

She has the experience and ability to do quite a few things, and even if she did everything part time that would still be something like ten stars worth of pay for one person who's just starting off. Now to be fair she is a noblewoman, so she's rather accustomed to a rather high rate of pay... but I didn't want to break the game or freak you guys out.

She'd also like to be a teacher and a concert violinist, but I thought I'd try to tone it down a little. If you guys INSIST I could also have her put of her tea shop until she's earned enough money to start it up in like a month or so. Then if I'm still around and active I could move towards her other more ambitious goals? Like having a castle constructed and having the offices of her law firm there as well as the living quarters of all her future cast mates.

It sounds like Maribelle is quite the busy woman! However, considerations for time of actual employment rather than simply being able to do something mean that we can't say that Maribelle would be capable of being a doctor at full time and a lawyer at full time. (It's just not possible given that both jobs require more than 40 hours of work per week.) However, she may be either a doctor or a lawyer and run her tea shop if she gets a manager for it. Going Lawyer > Law Firm + Plus Tea Shop then using her healing as needed seems like the best option to me, but any combination that you want would be fine except for jobs that are impossible to do together based on time restraints. Maybe teach a single class on the side or as a private instructor. Maribelle may be brilliant and a hard worker, but she can't alter time.

So Freeza has been egged on by certain parties here to prove how powerful he is by doing the impossible and crack though one of the city barriers and in Smoker's words "If you could go outside of them, demonstrate your freedom, and blow something huge up that would definitely prove it to all the guardians I think."

And while I very much doubt you'd allow him to succeed in that (and I probably won't either.) I'm just curious on what would happen if he did managed to do just that even if it was only for a very brief time?

Even Freeza with his strength wouldn’t be able to puncture a hole in the barrier. Even if he were able to, he would pass out from the effects of trying to pass through the barrier. And even if he were able to get out, the creatures that linger outside of it would make a meal out of him.

Though he can’t breach it, just attempting to do so will get him the same effects. So he’ll essentially passout from trying. He’ll feel weakened for a few hours when he awakes, but the effects will disappear.

Bounty Hunting

Since the poster of bounty logs are normally responsible for NPCs, I wanted to run something by all of you because it has the potential to tie in to the current plot going on re: Aster Technologies. The bounty Jaune and Mercury are signed up for was described as having no known reason for targeting the stores and vehicles he has been going after, so I was wondering if it would be okay if I wrote it so he was targeting people and stores with ties to Aster Tech? Housing and employment

Sooo, I got Father Abel here who would make a wonderful clergyman/pastor. He has extra financial help from a kind character to help him get started. He's working on moving out and live on his own.

Well, my idea is for him to find an abandoned church (we could say the previous occupant moved out) in Nova City that doubles as his home/office. While I think he doesn't have to pay for rent, he has enough money to make the repairs (unfortunately, he has to hire plumbers, electricians, carpenters/painters perhaps) and buy furniture and necessities.

Salary is a problem, so I don't know? Does the city helps a church guy's form his ministry? I mean, Abel has no problem being registered as a licensed Reverend. I mean, if the city doesn't fund him, he's going to be a pathetic priest begging for donations (like the churches in real life).

As for the house, ideally, I want 3 bedroom/2 bathroom, living room, kitchen. 1 bedroom for himself, and 2 bedroom for temporary guests that he wanted. Kitchen should be large enough to help feed his guests.

Also, I think he has no money to run a soup kitchen for now, but that can be plot for later. On a second thought, it could be a well-stocked fridge. xD

Though if this doesn't work out, I'm okay with him just living in an apartment and find a random church to work it, but having my own house to double as a church would be cooler. >_>

Abandoned housing in Nova City is scarce. That being said, if he were to take up residence in a place that is no longer being used, the only way he would get out of paying rent or for utilities would be to stay in it as is. As in not having repair work done or trying to get the electricity reactivated, ect.

The second he tries to do that, the owner would be contacted. They’d rent the space to him, so it wouldn’t be free. And 3 bedroom/2 bathroom, living room, kitchen would fall around the 7* mark for payment.

Everglade offers tax breaks for churches and such. A deal there could be struck up if he were to leave the creatures of the night (demons, werewolves, vampires, ect.) alone as well as not doing exorcisms and the like.

I just noticed that the Mod team is hosting their own game specific event very close to an event I pitched a week ago for the 14th. Someone from the mod team touched base with me regarding Katze's powers last week and unfortunately I haven't heard back from them yet. So, I'm not even certain if I have the clear for this event or if I should just reschedule mine/cancel it.

I noticed that Cassian's event went off with no hitch, so I'm assuming there's no formal form anywhere to keep track of events. The only reason I'm concerned about this since it goes without saying that a mod event trumps a player made one. So most players will logically lean more to one rather than the other.

With that said, should I just cancel or not? I wasn't aware the mod team had anything planned for the week of the 16th.

The message was just an inquiry to make sure Katze had the specific ability to copy powers. You showed evidence that they do, so that was that.

Small player run plots are generally allowed. If its a massive plot, involving large scale destruction, multiple cities, ect. It is always best to contact the mods beforehand.

As for Katze's plot, it is left up to your own desecration on what would like to do. It's not likely that everyone will want to or participate in the mod event, just as it is the same for Katze's plot.

just wanted to let you guys know that the bounty tracker spreadsheet linked in every newspaper post is from 2015. nothing on it has been updated anytime recently so us newer folks have no way to track our bounty claims/logs.

Hey there, sorry about that. We're aware that this is a problem and we're working on figuring out a new way to do it. The previous method was not working for the mods in this instance and it has now been removed from the newspapers. We will be addressing these concerns with a more functional system as soon as we figure out what works best. Thank you!
