DOOM TRAIN
Everglade Charm Quest - August 2019

On the morning of August 15th, each character who lives in or passes through the gates of Everglade will be visited by a free-floating specter! He hovers before them, grinning with what few teeth remain, and offers them a train ticket. "All aboard?" is his only offer. If the ticket is accepted, he grins, and fades out of sight. The ticket itself is old and yellow, and shows one purchase of fare aboard the Doom Train. It seems foolish to entertain the idea of boarding a freaking DOOM TRAIN, but who knows? Maybe your character is bored, or curious. Or maybe they noticed that there's a charm symbol embossed in the corner of the ticket. The train is said to depart on a free one-way trip lasting three days on August 18th, so there's time to think it over, and get everything needed to pack one's suitcase.

Charm Quest Details )

To sign up with a character, please use the form below. The Doom Train post will go up this Sunday, so make sure to sign up before then!

Let's Be Bad Guys!

The very next day after new city guardians have been elected, a message will pop up on everyone's devices announcing an opportunity to compete for an Attleton charm. Should your character be curious enough to read on, they'll find that the instructions are quite short:

Commit as many crimes as possible. Begins 6/24, ends 6/30.

There don't seem to be any restrictions listed. Anything goes. Your character's mission is to commit crimes and break laws, and the five who do the most will be awarded a charm for their wicked ways.

Naturally your character will need to get permission from other players if you're doing something that would affect them (such as trying to mug them in a dark alleyway or robbing someone's character-run business), but for the duration of the event, you don't need mod permission to do generic evil things. During this time, any crime that results in destruction of property or the death of an NPC will have those effects reversed the very next day. In essence, multiple people can take turns blowing up the Mime Emporium, and it'll be back once the calendar rolls over to the next day.

The scoring system of which crimes earn more points is ICly nebulous, but OOCly what matters is playing it out. Keep track of which threads you're playing and open posts listing the crimes that your character is going to attempt to commit. Even if your character fails ICly, OOCly it will count for points. The five who participate in the most threads will receive a charm for their character. You can have multiple prompts in one open post, and as long as each one has at least a solid paragraph describing what's happening, it will count as one point per prompt. Keep sensitive and graphic content under lock and content warning as per usual.

Crimes don't have to be dastardly to count as points, your character could furiously jaywalk and shake vending machines for free soda. It'll depend on the guardians and deputies how they want to deal with all of these troublemakers, and whether or not anyone should be arrested for participating in the charm quest, but try to work out options that result in players having a good time OOCly. Be creative, and go have fun with this one!

Feel free to use this post to plot with your fellow players!

See Attleton turn upside down!
See the finest cirque in town!
Everyone little more than clowns!
It's time for Cirque du Vrai!

Fun rides and games left and right across all every city of Genessia- Nova City Carnivals, the Wrath Carnival in Fayren, Happy Heights in Attleton- all kinds of events! If there's one thing it's clear everyone loves, it's a good fest to liven up the public. This year, it's Attleton's turn. And this year, things are going to get a little wild.

Welcome to the CIRQUE DU VRAI

The only circus in the world where you'll truly find yourself! No one is allowed on the grounds without wearing a mask-- and none of those prissy wire ones you can absolutely tell who the person behind it is because you want to look elegant- a real mask and a costume. Be whoever you want! Do whatever you want! There's a mysterious presence on the circus's grounds that seems to make it very easy to lose authorities, posters everywhere saying "Let the truth out!" and an atmosphere that encourages characters to indulge in their fantasies and anything that tempts them, good or bad. There are temptations everywhere on the grounds too- beautiful people of all genders dressed in anything you can imagine, contortionists and gymnasts and wild animals and tightrope walkers and fortune tellers- both Miss Cleo’s end of things and those with Friends on the Other Side, and hilarious fools throwing pies at tied up kings above dunk tanks! How would you like to give it a try? Don’t forget to try foods you’ve never been able to afford, no one’s looking, just take some off the table! There's food of all kinds, prizes seem to be more along the lines of real gold, expensive wines, big-screen televisions, toys of all manner- it seems like it's just about anything you could wish for. Just want to take a nap and watch a movie? Someone will lead you to a bean bag movie theater! Want to punch that guy who just bumped into you? Go for it, no one will stop you! They’ll laugh alongside you! Whatever you find you want deep within you, even if you know it's wrong, someone will find you and offer it to you. It's time to get caught up in yourselves and be true to your desires!

The Showstopper

Is this event just about indulging? Of course not! It's a test of character and a key pendant quest! While you'll be able to play out anything you want during the course of the event, there will also be a specific event considered to be the Real Showstopper! It's the event where your character joins in the circus and completes tasks, competing against other characters! If your character can draw themselves away from their temptations and join in the competition, they’ll be paired up in brackets (depending on how many sign-ups there are) and be put through various tests of their skills and moral compasses! Who will win? Is winning really what you want to do?

The ring master in charge of the Cirque du Vrai seems to think the prize is worth it. The silhouette of the prize shown before the show begins looks as though it’s some kind of glistening pendant, pure gold reflections dancing across the curtain it’s hidden behind.

Please note that if your character is participating in The Showstopper, they will need to be able to pull themselves away from temptation for a little while and they will have needed to keep their mask on the whole time. If you would like to sign your character up for The Showstopper, we do need to know participants ahead of time! Please reply to this thread to sign up by April 27th, 2017 so we have time to make brackets/assign competitions. Your character can still participate in the rest of the Cirque du Vrai even if they don’t participate in The Showstopper, but they must be signed up by that date to be involved in The Showstopper. The log for The Showstopper will be posted on April 29th.

What happens if my character takes off their mask?
All characters will have a strange feeling that they should keep their masks on the whole time or else something life-shatteringly terrible will happen. In reality, if your character’s mask comes off somehow they’ll find themselves in an empty field with papers and trash of what looked like it was once the sight of a circus. They won’t be able to get back in.

5 W’s of RP and So On
Who: Open to everyone! Bring your characters in and test their morals and inhibitions! Please feel free to misbehave and cause as much damage as possible.

What: Think Pleasure Island except the consequences are that they have to live with who they find they are at the end, plus a friendly (well, it starts that way) competition for the Attleton Key Pendant!

When: April 27th - 30th, with the log for the Showstopper being posted on the 29th.

Where: Attleton

Warnings:
Please note that this event may not reward morally upstanding characters and may contain emotionally difficult tests if your character makes it to the end.
☻Please remember that while there will be no consequences during the carnival itself, death rules still apply and your character may have to face whatever they’ve done after the event is over. You can go anything from Topsy Turvy’s Day of Fools to Jerome’s Circus a la Gotham (video warning for body horror, violence, murder) and anywhere in between.
☻If your character does something that should require a warning, please be sure to include a content warning in your subject line for the thread.

So On:
☻If your character lives in Attleton or your character wanders into Attleton and you don’t want to participate, all they have to do is take off the mask! If you don’t want to participate, have your character’s mask get knocked off if they would not take it off on their own.
☻If your character never goes near Attleton but you do want to participate, they may feel a strange compulsion to visit.
☻Is there a clown? Is there a mirror house? Is there a show? Can my character play with throwing knives? Is there- yes. Anything you might see at a carnival or circus, it’s there. Any temptation your character might want, it’s there. Unless it involves another character, then you should speak to the player and not the mod because you’re welcome to do something like that too but no godmodding as usual.
☻Is my character likely to die in the Showstopper? From an OOC standpoint, no, they aren’t. Your character will not ICly know that though.
☻Yes I know it should probably be Cirque du Vérité but Cirque du Vrai is much catchier and frankly, I wanted to so I did it. #dealwithit
Reply to this thread with questions. Do not reply to the plurk about this post with questions. Seriously. We don’t check the mod plurk for questions or PMs. Like for reals. If all the questions are here, everyone can see the answers. Even people who don’t have plurk. That’s why we ask for them to be in this thread.

Thank you and as a reminder, don't forget to check in to the activity check-in if you haven't already!

POKEMON IN GENESSIA CHARM QUEST 2: THE EVENT

EVENT START DATE: AUGUST 6TH
EVENT END DATE: SEPTEMBER 3RD

Starter Pokemon requests are OPEN!
(If you have a Pokemon from the previous event, please note it in your starter request!)

Make sure to read the whole post even if you were involved in the first Pokemon event as there are a number of differences between this event and the previous one!

Genessia is now a world of Pokemon! All of the archways have been flooded with these strange creatures overnight. Some of the characters who have been here longer might already know what they are, but those who don't can ask at the PokéCenter that cropped up right in the middle of Genessia, near the Bay! A great place for meeting other trainers, trading, and healing up Pokémon after a tough fight. And where did you get that Pokémon? Well..

STARTER POKEMON

Each character will be provided with one Pokémon to start with at the beginning of the event. They will find this starter Pokéball upon waking up the first day of the event. Most characters will receive "Common Starter Pokémon." Every character participating in the event will have a 1/10 chance of being bumped up to the "Rare Starter Pokémon" category and receive one of those Pokémon as their starters. If your character canonly has an affinity with grass, fire, or water types, you are welcome to include that in your starter Pokémon request comment, but otherwise no requests will be taken and all starters will be selected randomly. You cannot request rare starter types.

Common Starter Pokémon include: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Turtwig, Chimchar, Piplup, Snivy, Tepigg, Oshawott, Chespin, Fennekin, Froakie

Rare Starter Pokémon include: Pikachu, Eevee, Marill, Ralts

In order to get your starter Pokémon ahead of the event so you can start on day 1, comment here.

CATCHING AND LEVELING POKEMON

How do I catch a Pokémon? You have to have a Pokémon in order to catch more Pokémon. Your starter begins at level 5. That means if you encounter a Pokémon at level 5 or lower, your starter will win a battle against it, and you can use a Pokéball to try and catch it. Your Pokémon also has a chance to win battles with Pokémon up to 2 levels above its level, though the chances of winning decrease. Anything 3 or more levels above your Pokémon will win the battle UNLESS your Pokémon knows a move that's super effective against the other Pokémon. You can catch that Pokémon even if it's at a higher level (up to five levels higher). If you make your Pokémon fight another Pokémon that's too strong, it'll knock your Pokémon out for the rest of the day.

How do I get more Pokéballs? For each day, you get five new Pokéballs selected at random. Most of them will be PokéBalls, though you may also get Great Balls (Chances: RNG 1/3 to receive, increases 5 levels from your max Pokemon's level for possible capture) or Ultra Balls (Chances: RNG 1/5, increases 10-15 levels from your max Pokemon's level for possible capture). If you're lucky, you may even get a Master Ball (Chances: RNG 1/10) which can catch any Pokemon, no matter what level it is.

How do I level my Pokémon up? Each time your Pokémon wins a battle against another Pokémon or aids in the capture of a Pokémon, any participating Pokemon may gain a level depending on the level of the enemy. You may also exchange your Pokéballs for a Rare Candy! For each ball exchanged, you can gain one Rare Candy, which you can feed to one Pokémon to raise it by one level.

Can I gain levels by battling other trainers? Yes. We are leaving it up to you guys to handle the battles fairly, but if you have any disagreements about it, feel free to contact a moderator. When you comment each day, make sure to state who your character battled with the previous day. Include who won and which Pokémon were involved in the fight. Each battle won is +1 level for Pokémon.

How many Pokémon do I have in my party? You can have up to six at any one time. You can only switch out party members with those in your PokéPC at the beginning of the day, not in the middle of a battle. If you defeat a Pokémon and have an empty spot in your party, it will be with you immediately. Otherwise, it will be content to stay in a Pokéball back in your place of residence.

There's a Pokémon that goes REALLY well with my character and I want them to capture that Pokémon specifically, skipping the RNG. How do I do this? You can do this once during the whole event. You will need to sacrifice all of your character's Pokéballs for an entire day and you will not be able to level your other Pokémon that day. You cannot obtain Legendary Pokémon this way and you cannot obtain additional Starter Pokémon this way. This Pokémon will begin at level 5 regardless of the level of the rest of your party.

When commenting for each day, be sure to specify where your character is going to be. Different areas will have different Pokémon in them. The PokéCenter that cropped up in Genessia has information available about where to find these types! Talk to Nurse Joy and she will help you out. (This interaction should be handwaved.)

FOSSIL POKEMON: 1/50 chance to receive fossil in a special event. Fossils must be brought to Everglade to be returned to life.

LEGENDARY POKEMON: VERY RARE! Some legendary Pokémon are available but instead of the standard catch-chance method, they have a 1/10 chance RNG after the encounter begins. Different archways and subarchways have different available legendary Pokémon and you will only be notified upon encounter of which they are to keep everything fair. They're supposed to be incredibly rare, after all. Only one Pokémon is available of each legendary Pokémon and they are all high level.
*Mewtwo is not a catchable Pokemon as he is an actual character in-game. There are no additional Mewtwos. To try to catch the character Mewtwo, speak to his player.

BATTLE MECHANICS

Which Pokémon wins a battle? The same rules apply as they do for catching Pokémon, you just don't use a Pokéball if your intention is only to fight.

What if both Pokémon have moves that are effective against the other type? The higher level Pokémon wins.

What if both Pokémon have effective moves and they're the same level? ROCKS FALL EVERYONE DIES. Or they both knock each other out.

What if there are more than one Pokémon for one or both of the players? Does the highest level Pokémon keep winning by default? No, that wouldn't make sense, nor would it be fair. The Pokémon's level also determines the Pokémon's energy. A level 20 Pokémon defeating a level 10 Pokémon would have its energy reduced by 10 after fighting. If it had to face a level 12 Pokémon after that, the level 20 Pokémon (now level 22 because it won the first match, putting its energy at 12) and the level 12 Pokémon would be effectively tied, and both would be knocked out unless one had effective moves against the other.

Does a Pokemon stay tired if it has more than one battle? Make sure to go to the Pokemon Center between battles to heal up! One trip to the Pokemon Center costs 1 action for that day, but it's better than losing out for the whole day because you forgot to take care of your Pokemon!

What about a Pokémon that gets knocked out in battle, does it get its energy refreshed too? No. Once a Pokémon is knocked out, it's done for the day and can't do anything more.

What if we would rather RP a Pokémon fight? Can we throw out the rules? As long as both players are in agreement about the end results, yes.

Can I disregard the rules if I'd rather RP an encounter? Only if this would result in a disadvantage. For example, Pidonus can get her ass kicked by an enraged level 2 Weedle despite having higher level Pokémon for a laughs, but she couldn't have a miracle win with her level 5 Bulbasaur against a level 100 Arceus.

OTHER

My character has a Pokémon leftover from the last event. Can they use them during this event?
Yes! If your character already has a Pokemon leftover from the last event, they CAN use them in this event and your character will still receive a starter! However: Be advised that if a member of your party is 25+ levels higher than encountered Pokemon, you will not be able to catch them as you will just KO them. (Example: You have a level 6 Oshawott and a level 94 Gengar. You will not be able to catch anything below level 69. Catching anything above level 69 will result in your Oshawott not being able to battle and therefore not being able to level up.) If you have a Pokemon that is a high level from the last event, you can take them out of your main party until later in the event when more higher level encounters are available. Pokemon gained in the last event will not count toward your points total for this event, however.

How do I win this event? By accumulating lots of points! Each Pokémon your character owns is worth a number of points. If the Pokémon is common, it's worth less points than a legendary Pokémon. Then, each Pokémon's points are multiplied by its current level. A Pokémon can't grow any higher than level 100. If you're curious about how many points each Pokemon is worth, please check out the spreadsheet here. It also has information about what kinds of bonuses you can get to increase your points. As the event goes on, any bonuses your character gains will be added to the spreadsheet for safekeeping until the scores are totalled. If you do not actually care about winning and just want to have your character play with Pokemon, let a moderator know so we can be lazy and not do the math for your character. The top three scores receive a charm. HOWEVER...

There's another way to win!? Sort of. If your character manages to get an Everstone and another evolution stone of their Pokémon's type, they may give both to their Pokémon keep that Pokémon in addition to the single Pokémon they are allowed to keep at the end of the event.

How does my character get evolution stones? Every time you comment to the day's post to have your Pokéupdates, you get a 50-50 chance of getting an item in addition to your Pokéballs of the day. ICly, this is counted as either a random find or something that one of the Pokémon your character captured was holding. There are other items that your character can get, of course, but they have the chance to get stones.

So I can evolve a Pokémon too? Sure, if the requirements are met! Most Pokémon have to be at a certain level before they can evolve. If you are able to get the correct evolution stone, you can also do this to force an evolution. If your Pokémon has a disposition that makes them more resistant to you, you may have to ICly take them to a spa or pamper them a little to get them to evolve.

Can I get results in advance if I'm going to be busy? Absolutely! Each week I'll put up a new post, with threads for each day. You can request Pokéballs and see results in advance, as far as the week goes. A sample is posted below in the comments.

Can we trade items/Pokémon? Yes, just make sure you note it in your comment for the next day and the player that the trade is with must confirm it with a moderator for the trade to go through.

Can my character become a member of Team Rocket and steal other characters' Pokémon? Yes, yes they can. If your character is so inclined and ICly does something illegal during the Pokémon event, they will be approached by a couple of members of Team Rocket and asked to join. Stolen Pokémon will increase your character's points received for that Pokemon by 1.5x what the Pokémon is normally worth if they are a member of Team Rocket. Be aware that while they will get a snazzy uniform, they won't be required to wear it and they may need to be worried about the authorities arresting them if they cause trouble... but that's up to the City Guardians, really.

Can my character become a specific trainer type? Yes. If your character has at least 5/6 of their party a single Pokémon type, they will receive an additional point bonus of 0.25x their total score at the end of the event.

Can I breed Pokémon? Yes, but Pokémon cannot be trained during the breeding phase, which will take 7 IC days. After this, 1-2 eggs will be added to your character's inventory which will hatch at the end of the event. Any Pokémon that is hatched may be kept in this world but will not be seen until the end of the event. You cannot breed your own Pokemon together, you must breed with another character's.

Can I get results in advance if I'm going to be busy? Absolutely, and we encourage it. Each week there will be a new post put up with threads for each day. You can request Pokéballs and see results in advance for the current week. You may also backdate to a date that has already passed up until the end-date of the event. After the event ends, you will not be able to continue. Moderators will try to respond to result requests at the end of each day.

Do you have any easy resources in case I like but am not super-intense about Pokémon and don't have all of this information memorized? Me too, friend. Here are some links that will really help out during RP:
http://serebii.net/pokedex-xy/ - You can view Pokémon by type or number.
http://pokemondb.net/type/dual - A way to check if your Pokémon's move is effective against your opponent's Pokémon.

If you have any other questions, ask HERE to get in contact with a moderator ASAP!

Nova City needs your help!
THE EVENT TO OBTAIN FIRST KEY PENDANT TO OPEN NEW ARCHWAY STARTS NOW!
QUICK LINKS: NPC Post | Questions | New Archway Information | Activity Check-In

The lights of Nova City have just shut off! It's time to call the electric compan-- what's that!? The devices don't work in Nova City either? No phone service, no electricity, no nothing? The entire city seems to have shut down. There seems to be some kind of field generated around Nova City, hugging the barrier that's normally there. (It's the little spoon.)

There's no indication what it's a result of, but the entire city is in danger! There's looting going on and general mass hysteria amongst the NPCs. Nova City needs the world of Genessia's residents to help save the city.

What's Wrong: A key pendant has found its way into the core of Nova City's power generator. The electrical field that normally sustains the city has gone haywire.

In order to retrieve the pendant, the generator needs to be shut down. To do that, it will require at minimum someone with technical skills (to override the program and power down the generator), a couple people with fighting skills (to fight security robots), and someone with skills breaking into places (the entire building appears to be locked down and sealed. Breaking in will result in a battle if the alarm is set off). The power plant itself seems to still be somewhat active, robotic security guards actively guarding the generator. Characters are likely to encounter physical battles with a number of combat-ready robots

ENEMY INDEX )

Use this post to plot, as it will require teamwork!! Teamwork will be a must for this event! If anyone attempts to remove the key pendant without shutting down the system, it will kill them (regardless of their abilities) due to specific power and aspects of the key pendant. Please note that all key pendant events will be different, so if your character doesn't seem like they would be able to help in this one, there will be vastly different types in the other archways once this one is completed.

How this will be solved and how long it lasts will be up to the players, as the actual problem will not go away until players overcome it. ICly, it should be planned out to about a week or two, as we don't want to block off the entirety of Nova City for months due to backdating, but the exact amount of time is up for player discussion. The character who gets to keep the pendant is the one who retrieves it from the generator, though from there it's in play at player discretion. All characters who go to the power plant will receive a charm for participation.

09 February 2015 @ 08:46 pm
Hey everyone! I've noticed a couple of people doing this both before and after they got their RNG number so I wanted to clarify:

If your character is teaming up with someone, your character's arrow count will still stay the same. It is unfair to others who are participating and were not given notice that combinations could get hire numbers, plus it would block newer characters from having the same chances as older ones. There will be no duplicate charms given for teams either. RNG is RNG so that everyone has a fair chance. However, if the winning characters choose to give their charms to someone else (provided it follows the rules in the FAQ regarding charms) they are welcome to.

That said, for IC purposes your characters can still look for the arrows together! There's no problem with that!

And for those who haven't joined in yet, here's the Cupid's Arrow Collection Post. You have until the end of Valentine's Day! Good luck!

THIS EVENT HAS ENDED. PLEASE CHECK THE CURRENT EVENTS STICKY POST FOR THE CURRENT EVENT.

Not sure what this is about? Read the OOC EVENT POST and the IC NPC POST FROM CUPID.

HOW IT WORKS:
ICly, you can do whatever you want. However, to make things fair for the charm quest, you need to reply to this post with a list of days that your character is looking and for how long. A moderator will use a random.org random number generator in order to determine how many arrows your character can fairy find during the day. If your character has a special skill that allows them to find things, like tracking, detective work, or finding things professionally, you need to note that in your comment. It may up your characters chances, but there's no guarantee! Here's the breakdown of how the RNG will work:

Please try to account for your character's IC schedule when considering how much time they can spend on searching. If your character is Nova City's best surgeon, for example, they're probably not going to have as much time to search as someone who pushes a hot dog cart around town and can even search while they're working. For ease of replies, here's a form with all the information that needs to be included in your comment:

Reply to this post with each participating character and you should get a reply soon from a moderator with your RNG'd results!

Can my character steal someone else's character's arrows?
You are welcome to have characters steal other characters' arrows if you choose-- but you MUST 1. Discuss it with the player of the character yours is stealing it from first and 2. Reply to the moderator comment with how many arrows are stolen so that we can keep track and make sure that the charm prize(s) go to the correct characters at the end of the quest!

When am I not allowed to reply to this post?
You can reply to this post any time between now and the end of the event. That's why you get to pick and choose which days your character spent time on. If your character didn't even find out they were supposed to be looking until the 12th, you can fill out hours for just the 12th, 13th, and 14th. That's all up to you. However, once February 15th starts (12:01AM EST) and the event is over, character submissions will no longer be accepted so that the moderators can reward those who won the event in a timely manner.

Thank you and have fun!

THIS EVENT HAS ENDED.
PLEASE CHECK THE CURRENT EVENTS STICKY POST FOR THE CURRENT EVENT.

Let's get the reminders out of the way and then we can talk about February funtime!
    1. Today is the last day to check-in or be dropped! You have until 11:59pm EST tonight to do so. Check-In is closed!

    2. Intermittent earthquakes will still be going until midnight tonight, with a huge one today. Any archways listed in the CPU post about it will close at that point. Event complete!
THAT SAID onto February's event: A Valentinesy Charm Quest! I hope you're looking forward to it! On February 1st, a new NPC by the name of Cupid will make a post!

Cupid attempts to restore his image back to its glory of anything but a baby poking people in the butt with arrows by popping up and publically setting up blind dates on a quest to make people happy... Unfortunately, he lost his arrows! Whoever brings back the most arrows gets a charm! (Up to three people depending on how many participants there are.) Just be careful, someone who touches the tip of the arrow will fall in love with the first person they meet... on accident or on purpose! The spell is broken if anyone tries to take physical/sexual advantage of the situation, but enjoying the company of whoever's under the spell for a few good cuddles or a nice date? Totally acceptable.

Overall it's a fun, fluffy event and if your character is looking for arrows, there will be a mod post to RNG how many they find each day. There will be a comment for each day, you can reply if your character is looking on that day to see how many they find. Whether there are accidental/purposeful arrow pokings... well, that's up to you! Have fun with it, get all the cutesy dates (or funny crack ones) and most importantly HAVE FUN! This event will last February 1st-February 14th.

Feel free to use the rest of this post for plotting!

As writers and RP'ers, I anticipate that tags will probably slow down for many of us, particularly those who are participating in NaNoWriMo. I wasn't planning on doing it at all, but my roomie and writing group inspired me, so I'm going to gun for it.

But here's where you can benefit ICly.

If you participate in NaNoWriMo and complete at least 10,000 words, one of your characters gets a charm. Your choice of character, your choice of charm. HOWEVER. If you not only participate but reach the goal of 50,000 words? Each character you play gets one charm each. Booyah.

Genessia has always been a game intended for people who are busy, and have lives and hobbies outside of roleplaying. That's why the AC and application process is so minimal, because not only am I lazy as hell, I also want to make sure the game remains a hobby instead of a chore. Play and write because you feel like it, and because it's fun to do, whether you're fast or slow. For all you NaNoWriMo writers, I wish you the best of luck, and I hope you hit that goal!

P.S. My author name is 'Faetan'. Let me know if you're signed up so I can add you as a buddy!

Two-Part Halloween Event

Happy October! I know everyone's excited for spooky events, and with all the great player plots going on, I doubt anyone will be left wanting no matter what your RP preferences might be. On the mod side, there's a two-part event. The first part is a charm quest, taking place from October 27th - October 31st. Citizens in the city are invited to participate in a costume contest. Though entries will be taken into consideration during the entire timespan, a costume ball will be held in Genessia City on October 29th to showcase your costumes. They're not required to attend the ball, but why not show up in costume just the same? There are three categories for judging: A) Spookiest Costume, B) Most Creative Costume, and C) Funniest Costume Duo. That equals four Everglade charms up for grabs!

As for part two, be prepared for waaaaaaacky hijinks! On October 31st starting at sundown, people will believe that they are what they dressed up as. Props will be real, as will the costume, and any inherited powers that come with it...within reason. Don't dress up as God and use it as an excuse to powergame, obviously. Effects will only last until midnight. You can make this scary or comedic, or whatever you like. After all, you get to pick the costume! To opt out, just don't dress up.

Feel free to use this post for plotting purposes, or to ask questions.

This one's fairly simple. The pageant will have three events: the talent competition where they also rock their street clothes ensemble, the eyecandy swimsuit competition, and the evening wear competition where contestants answer three questions posed by the judges. There will be one event for men, and one for women.

Update: All judge spots have been filled. Thank you for signing up!

Two threads are listed below: one for judge sign-up, and one for contestant sign-up. You can sign up for one judge for the men's competition and one contestant for the women's competition, and you can have either one judge in each or one contestant in each, but not a contestant and a judge for the same pageant as results would most likely be biased.

Hopefully I worded that in a way that makes sense.

Anyway, each player can add only one participant for each pageant, so no dropping your entire castlist into the fray. We need audience members to come and cheer (and cause hijinks) too!

Questions? Fire away!

Just a heads up, the quest will end after everyone is satisfied with entering in their info, and/or if it's been over a week since my last response to questing input. The results will be backdated, but charms will be handed out! There will also be a final event posted on the last day of the month where the door to the Archway begins to seal. If you (or your character) don't want this to happen, PM/AIM me for spoilers on how to keep it open. It's pretty much in line with cheesy Pokemon movies, so it's pretty easy to figure out if you want to try it for yourself. I expect big spammy posts, though!

Days 22-28 below, with the 29th through the 31st closed so that the powers that be can tally the results. Pokemon cannot be leveled up, evolved, or otherwise altered during this time.

Also, if your Pokemon were stolen by Skeletor, you can assume that everything turned out fine and you got your Pokemon back on the 21st or 22nd.

Sorry for the delay on this one, I completely forgot!

Same format as usual: list your Pokemon with current levels and known moves, as well as any Pokeballs you're still carrying in your inventory.

08 May 2014 @ 03:27 pm
As before, post under the appropriate date to receive more Pokemon and/or Pokeballs. The format should look like this, so I don't have to hunt for the previous thread to know what the Pokemon levels and moves are:

King Hippo
Level 37 Psyduck - Confusion (Psychic), Spit (Water), Asskicking (Normal), Leer
Level 11 Mr. Mime - Confusion (Psychic), Taunt
Carrying over 2 Ultra Balls. Psyduck is the lead Pokemon for catching stuff.

NOW GIVE ME SOME BALLS!

Last week, one shiny Pokemon was caught, one legendary was caught, and two Master Balls were distributed. Best of luck this week! And trust me, the results are all randomized (even for myself).

Comment here with your character to receive your starter and six Poké Balls. Have fun! I'll try and respond as quickly as I can to comments. Remember, the event doesn't officially start until tomorrow. This is to help you RP things with OOC knowledge of the results.

This post is for May 1st - May 7th.

HAY GUYS GUESS WHAT???

SURPRISE POKEMON CHARM QUEST!

Each character will wake up this morning to find a Pokéball on their nightstand. Inside is a random starter Pokémon. There's also a bag of six Poké Balls. Next to this is an envelope with instructions, and a map to a brand new Archway that just opened up in Attleton that leads to a world of Pokémon. The instructions read:

Welcome to the world of Pokémon! For this month, you have 31 days to spend with your new companion. It will help you to catch other Pokémon, and aid you on your way to becoming a Pokémon master. The three citizens who catch and raise their new Pokémon the best will be awarded an Attleton charm of their very own. If you don't like your Pokémon, don't worry, they'll vanish after the event is over. And if you took good care of your Pokémon, raising it to five levels or higher than what it started out with, just ask and you'll be allowed to keep it. We're sure you have questions, so here are some tips for your Pokémon catching convenience.

How do I catch a Pokémon? You have to have a Pokémon in order to catch more Pokémon. Your starter begins at level 5. That means if you encounter a Pokémon at level 5 or lower, your starter will win a battle against it, and you can use a Pokéball to try and catch it. If your Pokémon knows a move that's effective against the other Pokémon, you can catch that Pokémon even if it's at a higher level (up to five levels). However, if you make your Pokémon fight another Pokémon that's too strong, it'll knock your Pokémon out for the rest of the day.

How do I get more Pokéballs? Each day, you get six new Pokéballs selected at random. Most of them will be Poké Balls, though you may also get Great Balls or Ultra Balls. If you're lucky, you may even get a Master Ball which can catch any Pokemon, no matter what level it is.

How do I raise my Pokémon's level? Each time your Pokémon wins a battle against another Pokémon or aids in the capture of a Pokémon, all the Pokémon in your party grow by one level, and the Pokémon that won gains two levels. You may also exchange your Pokéballs for special berries that Pokémon love. For each ball exchanged, you can gain one berry, which you can feed to one Pokémon to raise it by one level.

How do I win this event? By accumulating lots of points! Each Pokémon you own is worth a number of points. If the Pokémon is common, it's worth less points than a legendary Pokémon. Then, each Pokémon's points is multiplied by its current level. A Pokémon can't grow any higher than level 100.

How many Pokémon do I have in my party? You can have up to six at any one time. You can't switch out party members with Pokémon who aren't in your party during a battle, however. If you defeat a Pokémon and have an empty spot in your party, it will be with you immediately. Otherwise, it will be content to stay in a Pokéball back in your place of residence.

Can I challenge other Pokémon trainers to a battle? Pokémon love to battle! You can't capture the other trainer's Pokémon if yours wins, but you can still gain levels. Pokémon knocked out in battle can't be used for the rest of the day, however, so be cautious. If your Pokémon party wins against another trainer's, you can win extra points which will be totalled up at the end of the month to determine the winner.

What's a legendary Pokémon? Legendary Pokémon are very rare. There's only one of each, unlike the others! They tend to be fairly high in level, so make sure you train hard just in case you encounter one.

Good luck, intrepid Pokémon trainer!

Now for some extra OOC rules!

What if I want a certain Pokémon just because it fits so well with my character? You can only obtain non-legendary Pokémon this way, but if you forego the day's six Pokéballs, you can instead choose any one Pokémon currently in existence. You have to do this BEFORE you get the Pokéballs -- no deciding you don't like what you got, and exchanging them all for a Pokémon. Then you can RP how you find this special Pokémon however you like. Maybe it was digging through your trash. TEACH IT A LESSON IT WON'T FORGET. This Pokémon begins at level five, with any gender and nature that you like.

Who gets to go first in a Pokémon battle? The defender, i.e. the person who didn't make the initial challenge. The initial challenger sends out a Pokémon, and the defender chooses which Pokémon they want to use to defend.

Which Pokémon wins a battle? The same rules apply as they do for catching Pokémon. Ordinarily, the highest level wins the fight. However, a Pokémon with moves that are effective against the other Pokémon's type can win a battle if it isn't more than five levels lower than the opponent's Pokémon.

What if both Pokémon have moves that are effective against the other type? The higher level Pokémon wins.

What if both Pokémon have effective moves and they're the same level? ROCKS FALL EVERYONE DIES. Or they both knock each other out.

What if there are more than one Pokemon for one or both of the players? Does the highest level Pokemon keep winning by default? No, that wouldn't make sense, nor would it be fair. The Pokemon's level also determines the Pokemon's energy. A level 20 Pokemon defeating a level 10 Pokemon would have its energy reduced by 10 after fighting. If it had to face a level 12 Pokemon after that, the level 20 Pokemon (now level 22 because it won the first match, putting its energy at 12) and the level 12 Pokemon would be effectively tied, and both would be knocked out unless one had effective moves against the other.

Does a Pokemon stay tired if it has more than one battle? Only if the battles take place one after another. So if King Hippo fought Captain Hammer and won, before Deadpool immediately jumped in to issue a challenge, King Hippo's Pokemon would be at the same energy levels when fighting Captain Hammer. But if Hippo finished one challenge and went to Attleton to fight Frollo's Pokemon, the energy levels would be refreshed.

What about a Pokemon that gets knocked out in battle, does it get its energy refreshed too? No. Once a Pokemon is knocked out, it's done for the day and can't do anything more.

What if we would rather RP a Pokeémon fight? Can we throw out the rules? As long as both players are in agreement about the end results, yes.

Can my character steal other characters's Pokémon? Will they count as points if so? Only if the other character's player is OOCly okay with it. And yes, the points do count! So villains have plenty of incentive to go forth and cause trouble.

Can I disregard the rules if I'd rather RP an encounter? Only if this would result in a disadvantage. For example, King Hippo can get his ass kicked by an enraged level two Weedle despite having higher level Pokémon, but he couldn't have a miracle win with his level five Bulbasaur against a level 100 Arceus.

Can I evolve a Pokémon? Sure, if the requirements are met! Most Pokémon have to be at a certain level before they can evolve. But you can have your character spend money to purchase an evolution stone, or take the Pokémon to a spa if it needs a certain level of happiness. Just be fair about it, and RP it out.

Can I still use these mechanics to catch Pokémon after the event, or can I RP it out? Either one you like! Mechanics are only in effect to make things fair for the quest.

Can I get results in advance if I'm going to be busy? Absolutely! Each week I'll put up a new post, with threads for each day. You can request Pokéballs and see results in advance, as far as the week goes. A sample is posted below in the comments.

Can I trade Pokémon with other characters? Can I release a Pokémon that I don't want? Yes, and yes. Bonus points are given in the case of traded Pokémon, depending on how many are from different players. Swapping the same Pokémon back and forth doesn't result in additional bonus points. Keep in mind, if you release a Pokémon, you also release the points they added to your score.
