I think it's safe to say that this announcement is predictable, but it's time for Genessia, as a moderated game, to end. However, given how many people still enjoy the setting and want to make use of it, I've elected to leave it open for public use. Anyone can join the comm and use it as a sandbox/dressing room as they see fit (so long as they aren't assholes about it). For those who have stuck through it for better or for worse, thank you so much.

If you want to make use of what was written up for future plots, or learn the secrets behind Genessia's conception since the beginning, read below the cut. Good luck, and I wish you all the best!

Secrets secrets tell no one. )

And there you have it, all the deep dark secrets of the game. Feel free to keep running with it, or pretend it never happened and keep on keepin' on. Thanks for the good times and good memories!

The mods discussed the current state of the game, and came to the decision that it would be best to let Genessia go on a sort of hiatus starting now and lasting until January. The events and setting elements just aren't getting much traction, and there's no sense in creating more metaplot opportunities that are going to get neglected or passed over save for a very small active few players who have been doing their best to participate and contribute (thank you to those folks, you know who you are!).

While the game is on hiatus, you have the option of putting your character into stasis or carrying on with their daily lives as per usual. The mods will only approve/reject requests to join the comm (a comment to the Taken Page is still required), but beyond that we won't be updating lists or running events. There won't be any AC during this time. Tori-mod has offered to continue hosting the harvest party if there's enough interest, so please let her know if that's something you'd like. Players are of course welcome to host events and run plots for one another. This is a great opportunity to voice test characters in an already-fleshed-out setting with plenty of RP hooks to explore and enjoy. You won't need mod approval to host an event or go on an adventure, just don't go *too* bananas and set everything on fire.

We're hoping that giving people a break from the game will allow people a chance to miss it, and hopefully encourage more engagement once the game resumes. This will also give the head mod time to come up with a more organized schedule for metaplot clues and events to be accessed. Gameplay is typically slow during the holidays anyway, so this seems like the right time to let things rest for a while.

We know some people won't be happy about this, and that there's a risk that the game might just fizzle out entirely as a result. The game's been heading in that direction for a while anyway, so while we'd like for it to pull through, we're prepared to let it go if there's just not enough activity and interest to justify putting our time and energy into maintaining it.

So happy holidays, Genessia! We'll see you again in an official capacity in 2020!

Hey all, Tori-mod here!

Just wanted to pop on here and drop a ‘formal’ hello with some contact links and things! I’m so excited to dig in and really get some cool, interactive events going for you guys. I know Faetan and Mags have some really fantastic things planned, and I’m thrilled to help them out and give you all some really fun situations to play with!

You guys made the beach party a blast and the masquerade absolutely magical last year, and I’m so excited to see what you’ll do with the events to come! I had so much fun working on those events, and can’t wait to bring you some more…be it a sweet slice-of-life scenario, some crazy crack circumstances, a dramatic and whimsical scene, or breeding grounds for flat out, terrifying danger.

THAT SAID:

I know Genessia is best known for it’s player-driven qualities, and I’m so ready to fuel the fire! Writing up an event post is not always an easy task; players are busy and words are hard, but with a little help here and there, events can be awesome opportunities for new CR, character development, and just all around good times! I’m here not only to help Fae and Mags run the Big Bad metaplot posts and the silly lighthearted ones in between… but also to help you guys get things rolling if you need me. PLEASE reach out if you’d like a specific game wide event and need a lil’ help getting it ready or setting up the proper timing! I’ll even do the little things like helping out with graphics and formatting if you’d like ;)

I know it’s been a rocky few months and the lull has been far too long, but I’m blown away by plans and revelations coming down the pipeline and ready to seriously shake things up. You all have been ESSENTIAL in planning the next few steps for the game, and the modifications which I know we’re all SO ready for and new additions are coming soon. Phase II is going to be a trip, so buckle in and hold on tight for just a little while longer. Your patience is so very appreciated, and we’re determined to make it well worth the wait.

If you’ve got an event you’d love fleshed out, suggestions for mod-run events that you’d like us to play with, or suggestions on how events should be run or just get bored to death at your desk job and need someone to chat with at random, feel free to poke me whenever you’d like!

I apologize for the lateness of this post! If anyone is interested in running for a position, please comment here with your character's name and which city they'd want to govern. Honestly we don't expect a lot of competition as the playerbase is small at the moment, but if there's interest and enough characters to necessitate a competition, then I'd be happy to set something up.

Welcome to the 2019 Genessia Pokemon event! This epic adventure will span through the full month of July, from the 1st to the 31st, where characters will be greeted by Professor Teak, a friendly woman with wild grey hair pinned up into a braided bun, who's only too happy to study the wonders of Pokemon in their...natural...environment? Well it's natural to THEM anyway, at least for the month of July, so she'll ask for volunteers to sign up and help her complete her studies. Volunteers will receive a Genessia Pokedex (divided into seven regions) and access to her lab, where they'll receive any level five starter Pokemon of their choice as well as a daily supply of Pokeballs. The five best helpers will receive an extra reward of a Nova City charm, wowie! Even if the character declines to participate, all it will take is a glance out the window to realize that Pokemon are already here, and they're everywhere. Get ready for a Pokemon-filled summer!

...And don't be scared by the nitty gritty mechanics. If you don't want to go after a charm, you can still have fun messing around with Pokemon-themed adventures throughout the cities.

I know it's my destinyyyyyy! )

The mechanics might seem complicated on paper, but don't worry: the mod will be doing most of the work for you with randomized rolls and calculating encounter results. A sample Day in the Life of Joe McCool will also be presented on the primary event log once it goes up so you can better understand what a search request should look like. Don't know much about Pokemon? There are plenty of players who do, so make use of their PokeKnowledge, and be sure to visit serebii.net for more detailed information about your Pokemon such as evolution requirements, what moves they learn at certain levels, and what egg type they are to determine their compatibility with other Pokemon in the nursery.

Do your best to earn those charms and fill out that PokeDex, and if everyone cooperates, you might unlock something really good at the end of the month. Feel free to ask questions below, and I'll get to them as soon as I can!

Attention everyone! It's time for the election poll for the City Guardian new term (July-December 2019). Here are the rules for voting in the poll:
1. All votes should be who YOU would vote for. Use only one journal for this, not multiple character journals. Voting is done OOCly by player, not characters!
2. Voting results will only be seen by me, so please vote honestly for which character you'd like to see in that position.
3. As far as IC voting goes, characters are still voting technically -- the voting booths include NPC voting as well as pendant-holders, so if a character would ICly be unlikely to win but OOCly would be the most interesting or fun to see with such a job (such as a villain character), victory can be assumed as due to things like cheating, a very strongly devoted public interest group, brainwashing some of the populace to vote a certain way, etc.
If you have any questions, reply to this post and a mod will get back to you as soon as possible. Otherwise, click on the cut to vote. The poll will close at 11:59pm PST on June 22nd. The official IC announcement will be made on the 23rd.

Good morning, everybody! (Afternoon by the time I finally finished typing this...) As I mentioned previously, I'll be providing a monthly mod report to keep everyone up to date of any changes or edits made to the game, the way it's run, or generally the things we've been up to. Even if there's a month where nothing significant happens, we'll still put these up so you have a place to provide feedback (maybe you think something significant SHOULD have happened!) and foster open communications.

There's a lot this month. You might want to go make a sandwich first. )

I think this covers it, but honestly there was so much that I tweaked here and there I might have forgotten to mention something. If you can spare the time, please review the rules and FAQ again, and make sure your conctact info is up to date. Also check the housing, employment, and taken page to make sure we've listed everything correctly (some characters were living in three different places and we weren't sure which one was the most current!).

I also want to say thank you for making this transition so surprisingly easy. You guys have been great at providing feedback and answering questions, and have been really positive and supportive. Who says modding is a thankless job?

Feel free to post comments down below to weigh in on potential changes, leave feedback for current changes, ask questions, suggest changes, or point out errors we need to fix.

Hello hello! It has been a very long time since I've moderated this game, and I have nothing but the most sincere appreciation to Tay, Dave, Lisa, and all the other players and helpermods who have kept Genessia going through all of the years. It's amazing to me that it's continued, and I know that's due to the time, effort, and talent that everyone has contributed.

For the past couple of days, after I offered to step in when I heard a new mod was needed, I've been making several notes and plans about things I would like to introduce as well as things I'd like to change. Rather than take a sledgehammer to everything immediately, I'll share those notes with you. I'm going to need your input, feedback, and help for a lot of these things, so buckle in! And don't be afraid to speak up about things that aren't on the list, it will help to know where current interests lie.

Genessia: Phase Two )

I'm also very happy to say that Mags has volunteered to assist with list-mod duties. Thank you, Mags! Between the two of us, we should be able to keep things running smoothly.

Also as far as things that will NOT be changing, AC will still be a check-in, apps are still not required, and there will still be a newspaper and bounty hunting opportunities. I hope you're as excited as I am for the upcoming changes! In the meantime, I'm going to be reviewing a lot of the rules, FAQ's, and other pages to see if everything is up to date or needs a little tweaking to keep the game chugging along in a fun and engaging way.

Hello everyone! There have been a couple of adjustments to the schedule for December in order to make it possible for everyone to enjoy freedom for the holidays, both in game and out. The City Guardian Debates are going to be posted today, the December event has been moved to this weekend for Dec. 14th-17th. Voting dates will remain the same (Dec. 24th start date) but that should leave any time past the 18th for holiday plans. :) Please enjoy and let us know if you have any questions!

Hello everyone, Tay here! Happy Friday!

Unfortunately, my news isn't the happiest. Due to a lot of life and motivation issues, it's time for me to step down as a moderator. Genessia is an awesome game that brings together players from all walks of the RP universe and I am proud to have been a moderator here for nearly 4 years.

Genessia is an ever-changing and ever-evolving game, so I'm sure as we step forward into the future, the remaining moderators and whoever else they decide to bring on will bring new life to the game and continue to make it a fun and relaxed game for everyone. I will be staying on through the end of the year to help out as Dave and Lisa work to fill my role and re-structure the current mod set-up so that it's more effective for both mods and players.

Thank you so much everyone!

Hello everyone! There have been a few changes to how the Genessia Discord Server is set up and will be operating based on feedback from the community that was given and a few things that we wanted to do as moderators as well to make things clearer and easier on everyone. So without further ado, here are the changes you'll be able to see now:

1. If you do not have your discord username posted on the player contact, you may be removed during periodic housekeeping purges. This is in order to make sure that only current players are in the Discord and to make it easier to identify who is who if they don't include characters in the chat, etc.

2. New channels:
#rules, a non-respondable channel that has the discord regulations posted for easy access
#welcome, a channel with the automatic new member announcement feature enabled. greet new friends here!
#gametalk is actually formerly #main, but should now be Genessia-focused.
#offtopic, for any conversation not belonging to other channels.
#fandom, for all your fandom-related needs whether it be gaming, TV shows, movies, whatever
#picshare, for all your memeing, cat pics, and other random needs
Note that #mmo has been eliminated. Please include MMO talk within fandom as we do not want to have a separate channel for every type of game and medium out there.
3. We will be adding new Discord Leaders shortly, we have to discuss candidates. In the meantime, if there are any issues please contact one of the regular game mods privately!

4. New rules regarding language use, sensitive topics, spoilers, and self-identification with nicknames listed in #rules.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reply to this post and a moderator will get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you!

28 September 2018 @ 09:10 am

Event Dates: Oct. 4-Oct. 7

As many people know, Old Everglade is largely abandoned and for good reason. New Everglade may have a lot of current residents, but the deeper into Old Everglade you get, well… the more off-kilter and less controllable things get. It’s why most NPCs won’t tread there nowadays unless they really need something.

A teenage boy by the name of Thomas is worried for his sick grandmother. His grandmother is terminally ill and, though taken care of at Everglade’s Nightingale Care Institution, is likely not to make it through to the new year and told him about a childhood toy she had back when she used to live in Old Everglade. For this reason, Thomas ventured into Everglade’s abandoned areas and found the toy- this doll seems to have made friends, however, and in chasing it it led him to a very, very old bridge. The bridge was rickety, barely standing, but determined to see his grandmother smile one last time, Thomas persevered.

This was not the best idea Thomas has ever had. Crossing the bridge broke a series of seals that had been placed onto the bridge to cordon off an island known as the Isle of Doll. Thomas’s grandmother’s doll had been from outside of it and had been coaxed into bringing a human there to break the seal so they could become true friends, and in doing so released the dolls from the island. Though the island was small, it was filled with hundreds of abandoned dolls, all lining the edge of the island. They move in jerky, rickety movements as if they should not be moving at all. And now they’re out, and they’re coming to Everglade to find new friends. Forever friends. Friends that won’t ever, ever be able to leave them. Ever again.

Event Summary
Creepy, broken, abandoned serial killer level yandere dolls invade Everglade. If you’re there, you've got a new stalker. If you don’t pay enough attention to your new doll friend, it will turn violent. It will come after the people you care about. It may not let you leave your home. It may try to go full Five Nights at Freddy’s on you and try to turn you into a doll so you can be its friend forever, so maybe don’t let it near the black magic books or animatronics. What level of doll-inspired horror you run into is up to you, so please have fun.

Event Resolution
Characters need to go to Isle of Doll and leave a doll or toy of their own on the island to draw the dolls back. They will be satisfied with a new “friend” temporarily, so in order to draw them back this needs to be done. After 4 days, the island will be sealed off and the interim mayor’s office will announce a decree to smash all remaining dolls with specially developed exorcism hammers, now available for purchase at The Rabbit’s Foot!

OOC Details
•There will be a log posted with prompts, but you’re welcome to make your own posts as well.
•If you don’t want your character involved, simply don’t have them found by a doll or have them keep out of Everglade during the event.
•If you want your character involved and they aren’t an Everglade resident, there will be a kickass free sample giveaway fair at Everglade’s local chocolaterie. Free chocolate. And free caramel if your character is allergic to chocolate! And free blood candy pops for vampires! And so on and so forth, just assume there’s some kind of tempting edible for your character that just sounds absolutely irresistible and they’re there for the sweets fair.
•The dolls are smart, so if your character isn’t human, they’ll find some kind of weakness in attacking. Are they a vampire? Your doll got you a lovely garlic present on every doorframe so you can’t pass now. Android? Did you know that Everglade’s black market sells electromagnetic curses that disable all electronics within a 30 foot radius? Feel free to get creative as long as the dolls don’t gain world-breaking powers. If you aren’t sure, ask a mod!
•Once your character is “befriended,” they won’t be able to leave the archway until they get their doll back on the island. This is to prevent the character from simply walking off and Everglade being abandoned; from an OOC standpoint, the dolls are not recognized as something allowed to pass through the archway because they are not technically objects nor NPCs. Once they basically “imprint” on your character, it will prevent their pendant from activating and letting them cross. Oops. :)

This is an announcement to let everyone know that we are going to be pausing the Search Request post for the time being. With real life stuff as well as how much work actually goes into responding to requests, things have gotten a bit intense. We are also working on other things gamewise and pausing the Search Post will free up more time to so just that.

We will try to get to Searches that have already been posted or ones that have been left unfinished, but we can’t issue a time frame for when that will be. But for the time being, we won’t be accepting any new requests.

Sorry and thank you.

27 April 2018 @ 11:52 am
Hi everyone! It's almost the end of April, so here's your reminder:

Don't forget to check in!!

If you don't check in, you will be removed from the game. :( Even if you're playing! It's the rules! So seriously if you've been playing and you're interested in continuing to do so, check in.

10 March 2018 @ 07:29 pm
A reminder that Mod approval is needed for plots involving any of the following:

-Anything involving the public or citizens of any Archway.
-Anything involving an entire Archway.
-Anything where a character publicly breaks the law or would have attention called to the crime they committed.
-Anything that causes destruction to a large area.
-Anything that involves the death of multiple characters.
-If contains sensitive topics / would need a content warning.

Failure to obtain Mod approval for such plots will result in any posts related to the plot being frozen or removed from the Comm entirely. Even if you are unsure if what you want to do requires approval on not, it won’t hurt to post it there beforehand. Sometimes things are scheduled for certain dates and letting us know ahead of time can avoid conflicts.

Plot approval can be found on the Event Planning, Suggestions and Submission post. This post is also linked on both the main profile of the game and in the navigation.

04 March 2018 @ 01:30 am
Hello all,

So as we wind down on the Pokemon event, I wanted to introduce you to a new game mechanic at Genessia: Search Requests.

Search Requests are basically a way for your character to go on adventures and expect to potentially find something other than 'oh wow more forest' or 'the ocean sure is wet.' There are plenty of nifty locations not yet discovered within the five main cities of Genessia, and now it's your chance to find some! Or just find stuff. Or maybe find plot. Who knows.

If you're interested, go ahead and swing on over to the Search Request Rules page and read up for more information. There are some rules for how it works to keep it fair without ignoring potential advantages/disadvantages some characters might have during their searches as well as give you the opportunity to state things you don't want to deal with and so on.

This is not a specific event and will remain up until the end of time. If you don't want to get involved at all, don't worry about it. This is by no means a mandatory part of the game, it's just available for those who would like it. And while unlocking plot is possible, it is by no means the only way to get involved in future plot. Links have been added to this page in the main navigation page and the FAQ under archways/subarchways.

Have questions? Go ahead and reply to this post. This is a pilot for this, so we're definitely looking for feedback on how to improve it as time goes on.

IMPORTANT IF YOU WANT YOUR CHARACTER TO KEEP 3 POKEMON

It's time again to say goodbye to your Pokemon. They were with you for a shorter time this go round, but surely you still managed to make lasting friendships with them. Characters will receive a message on their device saying that their Pokemon will be departing in 10 hours. They can make the most of that time.

Like last time, everyone gets to keep three Pokemon. But maybe you don't have the Pokemon you want and someone else does? Well here on this post, you can trade. There will be two threads below. One for Trading and one for Claiming. There will be a form for each. If your character is trading a Pokemon, make sure both players acknowledge it in the Trading Thread.

Don't post to the Claiming thread until you have finalized your list. You are given until March 10th to post to the claiming thread. After that, you are no longer allowed to claim any Pokemon from this event. Failure to post to the thread by the end date will mean your character didn't keep any. So post ASAP.

Be sure to list the Pokemon's level as well. Any Pokemon received as starters must be between level 1 and 41.

Any Pokemon caught in the wild must be between level 1 and 45.

Any Pokemon received in the paper must be between level 1 and 24.
