Employment Page / Playable Character Specifications
Hey everyone! Guess what? You know that other page that's really huge and hard to find things in? Yep, that's right! It's the employment page. We went ahead and went the same route as the Player Contact page and made it into a spreadsheet. It's the same page- so if you've got it bookmarked or the url is saved in your browser, no worries. Here's a quick link so you can take a look, but here are the things that have changed:
Organization:
It is organized alphabetically first by city, then by business name, then by position. Cities are color-coded on the left so you can easily see when you transition to a different city on the list. (The colors match pendant colors.) Any time the list changes to a new business, the business name is highlighted in green (for-profit) or gold (non-profit). It should make it very easy to find anything you're looking for. If it isn't, just ctrl+f and do a keyword search.
All of the owners are bolded and at the top of the list for each business regardless of alphabetical order. This will make it easy to find who the owner of a business is so you know who to ask if you want to place your character with a job there. The only exceptions are the owners who own multiple businesses.
Bounty Hunters: Bounty hunting is considered a for-commission profession. Payment for these will either be done through the Bounty Board, the newspaper, or special in-game events. If your character wants to make a career out of it, they were moved to the Beacon Bounty Board. If this is not what you would prefer to do, please edit what you would like on the employment page. Bounty Hunter positions will not be available with no agency however due to inconsistent payment ranges in the past.
Non-Profits: Non-profit organizations cannot pay more than * per position, regardless of position. Non-profit employees have the option to waive that and do it as a volunteer position.
Freelancers/"Variable" Employment: Freelancers make less than those who are with a company that does the business portion of the job for them, and typically take up more of the business in general. If your character was commission-based, variable, or freelance anything they will have been moved into the "Freelancers" category.
Hover Notes (Business Name): Hover over the name of the business (green background for visibility) to see the description and if there are any links to more information.
Hover Notes (Non-Name): Is there a note on something other than the name? These are quick references/info drops that you may need to know about the position!
"City" Category Added: Intercity was added as a "City." This is not a new city, it literally means between cities. This replaces various. It also has an exclamation point at the top so the Bounty Board is easier to see, as this is often asked about and easy to lose in the employment page. No more complaints about not being able to find it or not knowing it was there! Yay!
Open Jobs: OPEN POSITION means that there is one of that specific position open. "See terms" means that you must read additional pages to find out whether a position is open to your character or not, or if it's open indefinitely. Reminder that any time a position is open and the business is not run by an NPC (there is a character listed as the owner) you need to ask permission from the owner-player to have your character work there.
Branch Owners: The Large Business rules still apply from before, but all positions will be listed with the branch names followed by (Subsidiary of: COMPANY NAME). The overall companies will be listed in "Multiple Branch Business Owners" under the !Intercity location category. If your character owns more than one branch, this is where their income will be listed.
Entertainers and Celebrities: Celebrity status has changed to be achievable in Genessia without canon basis. From now on, if your character is represented by a talent agency, they have a ¼ chance every 2 months to be RNG'd to be Genessia's new hot celebrity. Celebrities without talent agents will only be able to make a maximum of *** without representation. However, characters who were previously stuck at * regardless of how long they had been in an entertainment-style position will now have a chance to make up to **** if they find representation.
Criminals if you play a criminal, you may be contacted by a City Guardian player if your character is active with their job! It would be strange for Guardians to completely ignore criminals for a long period of time, but there are definitely options. Whether or not your character can be caught will depend on plotting, so it'll require discussion and if they are caught, both parties must agree and have a reasonable plan for the criminal character to still be capable of playing in the game.
Pay Rates: Some of you may look at this and find your character and be like "What, that wasn't what they were getting paid before!" In addition to freelance and non-profit adjustments, some of the positions were granted money that the job would not have qualified them for given the rules as stated in the employment post. Please check your character's current total pay and if you have a question as to why your character's pay was lowered/raised based on this, please let me know. You do not have to retcon your character's previous pay, simply use the IC reason of "the economy is shifting" in Genessia!
Business Creation: Your character must have worked for any other business for at least one month in-game before creating their own business. This is equal parts for encouraging interaction between characters instead of everyone having an individual business with no employees and to save the mods work when people pick up characters, make a business, and then never ever do anything with it besides make extra work for clearing it out.
Dropped Character Businesses: If a character owns a business and then drops, another character must pick up ownership of the business within one month or it will go under to make room for other types of the business in the future.
In addition, we've had a large number of questions regarding what is/isn't a playable character, so please check out the FAQ's playable characters section for more information. We've come up with a more detailed list that should help players be better prepared to know who is playable. In conjunction with this, please let us know if you are playing a CRAU version here so that we can update the Taken list ASAP! Thank you.
Current law enforcement updates have also been added to the FAQ (player-made changes). If you ever make a player-made change that affects any area's environment, please contact a mod ASAP to let us know in case we don't see it so that we can add it for everyone's access. Just making a post doesn't mean that it'll get updated in the game's story unless you let us know!
Lastly, we also updated the charms information for a more functional system. In order to help us gather information about who currently has charms, please comment this post here with what charms your character already has. It will go on this spreadsheet once we have that information available, which is also linked in the FAQ! Your character won't be added to the list until they obtain a charm. Since there was never any record for who had charms before this, we are trusting you to be honest.
Let us know if you have any feedback for this or if you'd like to see other improvements (PMs are the best). There are still some in the works since we're trying to do a big overhaul to make things easier for everyone, but if we hear from more than one person we'll definitely have help knowing what direction will help people out!
