OCTOBER EVENTS... BOOHAHAHA!

Everyone has something they fear. They may not all experience fear in the same way. Some are overwhelmed. Some scream. Some cry. Some hate. But so many fears are easy to never face, either through improbability or simple avoidance...

...Until this Halloween!

HALLOWEEN WEEK 10/25-10/31
It's the party of the century: Fayren's royal family has opened up the castle for an All Hallow's WEEK celebration that'll spook your socks off! The entirety of the castle grounds are open for use, but things go awry when a mysterious whisping glow seems to seep throughout the castle grounds. Suddenly, peoples' fears are becoming reality...

Throughout the event, characters' fears will appear to manifest in reality. Any fears are okay to play out unless they require another character currently in the game to do something that their player does not consent to. (Basically, don't godmod in the name of ruining IC friendships- ask permission or go for something more along the lines of claustrophobia or puppy fear.)

Different fears can manifest in different ways depending on how you play it too, so it might just be that your character is terrified of a happy cat who just wants to cuddle or that cat can turn into a ferocious cat-monster and try to eat them.

Here's the trick though: Everyone can see those fears, not just your character. (Unless of course, your character's fear is no one noticing them- hard to see invisible people!) So there's every chance that your character may end up running from someone's elementary school teacher they still have nightmares about chasing them with a ruler and go through a door and end up standing on the edge of a 50 meter cliff because your character is afraid of heights. Whether they manifest in reality or are just an illusion is up to you as a player and how much you want to traumatize your character.

Though the event starts in the castle, any creatures/fears generated from the event are more than welcome to leave the castle and spread throughout Fayren- so if your character isn't a party person but you still want them involved, never fear (haha); your character will still be able to encounter fears outside of the party.

HOW TO AVOID UPSETTING ANYONE WITH THEIR REAL-PERSON FEARS: Any time a sensitive topic comes up, post the name of the fear in the subject line of a thread. So if your character runs into a giant spider, just put "Arachnaphobia" in the comment line. Easy as pie. That way no one ends up reading something they really don't want to.

I DON'T WANT MY CHARACTER TO PARTICIPATE AT ALL: Give them some reason to get out of Fayren for the week, as the event will not be leaving that archway.

RESOLUTION: Badilwyn the Brutish Sorcerer, worshipper of chaos and the fear demon Valdimert, escaped from prison. His 7-day spell invoking Valdimert's wrath exists solely to cause chaos, which the demon feeds upon. After this event, a bounty will be placed on his head and Badilwyn will be up for capture before he causes more trouble. Who let him out of his magic-bound prison though...? The sorcerer doesn't seem keen on saying. Perhaps even he doesn't know... If Badilwyn isn't stopped via bounty hunters, there may be one more chaos-causing event later that results in the rise of Valdimert the Fear Demon. (Players' choice. A poll will be put up toward the end of the event to see if the game overall would like a Badilwyn Strikes Again event.)

Ooh, a chance to recreate my favorite part of a good book!

If anyone wants some positive cr, this is a good opportunity. While Ted has his own fears, it's possible that he could alleviate them for someone else. The criteria is thus:

1.) Your character be willing to divulge what it is that's bugging them, in detail if necessary
2.) The fear in question being able to be (at least partially) overcome through mental fortitude, or courage, etc. Brute strength isn't his specialty.

That's it! Note that this need not be done during the event; i.e., if your fear is, say, oblivion to the people around you, it wouldn't matter, so long as your character shares their burden sometime. Eternity works like that.

And, naturally I'm open to the reverse idea, if someone wants to shoulder Ted's burdens for a spell.
