PLOT EVENT: BREAKTHROUGH

THIS IS A HORROR EVENT. IF YOU DO NOT WANT YOUR CHARACTER INVOLVED, YOU MAY CONSIDER HAVING THEM HANG OUT IN NOVA CITY, ATTLETON, OR FAYREN FOR THE DURATION OF THE EVENT. EVERGLADE AND GENESSIA WILL NOT BE SAFE.

As you can see on the main community where the open log for the event exists, Everglade has been breached! So what all is happening now, how do we fix this, and what happens if your character does x, y, and z? Let's get started.

The Everglade barrier field has been breached. There's basically a 99% chance that your character won't be able to get through it through the cracks EVEN if they can fly up there as the open areas are small enough that nothing with a solid body can get through. If they widen them, then it'll allow the spirits to get through and basically scoop your character's emotions and morality right out of them the second the flood starts. So escaping is an absolutely terrible idea. If your character is dumb enough to do it anyway, contact a moderator so that we can make an NPC post about what happens in response.

Yes that's right, I said emotions and morality. If your character gets caught, these spirits will suck your character's emotions and ability to differentiate between right and wrong out until they're an empty shell of themselves. It's basically what happens if your character touches the barrier, except they'll be awake the entire time and they won't leave anything left. You will have the option to play your character at that point basically as a soulless husk attempting to find the one thing it lacks: emotion.

How exactly do characters who have been caught by the spirits act?
They may continue to try to do typical things that your character would do at first, but soon find that they can't actually feel anything while they do it. They can't feel anything, they just feel empty. They feel a need, and they need to find a way to fulfill it. How they start trying to fulfill that intense emptiness and need for more will be up to you, but because they don't have their emotions, they may go straight to things that ignore morals, like trying to feel sadness by hurting someone or trying to eat everything around to try to fill that emptiness. Eventually, the first thing they'll start to feel is an empathic understanding of what the spirits from outside are doing. They can get 'feelings' from other people, they just have to figure out how to get them out. With that in mind, your character may go any level of horror within their capabilities to try to steal the emotions from other characters who haven't had their emotions stolen.

How do we save those who are caught?
There are a couple of ways to 'fix' someone who has had their emotions leeched out of them. However, be aware that there will be no IC explanation for how to do this, so characters may need to try different things on their own. Here are the things that will work, however:
    1. The most tragic is to kill the character. Any character deaths during this event will still hold the same consequences as a normal death and they will need to give up something to come back. When they come back, their emotions and moral compass will be restored.

    2. THANKFULLY there's another way to fix them. In fact there are two. This way is the tamest way, which will work for just about anyone. An affected character needs to be pushed into the waters of the Bay by someone who isn't affected. The waters of the Bay will take half of the emotions from the unaffected character and transfer them to the emotionless character. They will both feel somewhat empty, but they will both still be able to feel and will be able to recover completely with time. Both characters will feel incredibly drained and may have difficult using any powers they may have for about a week. The character who had given the emotions may accidentally transmit any specific strong feelings they have about something or someone to the receiving character. So if Character A is deeply in love with Character B, and character C receives Character A's emotions, character C will experience feelings for character B for some time. The same thing can happen with loathing, fear, or any other strong emotion about someone or something.

    3. The last way can only be done by characters with deep emotional bonds of love. Family, best friends, lovers, or other unspecified but incredibly deep relationships qualify. If an affected character feels true love of some kind for someone, that person and only that person can bring them back without using one of the other two methods. If the loved person is put in either mortal peril OR is cornered by the affected person who loves them and they have a love deep enough that it could be considered practically ingrained in their soul, then they can be appealed to and reached. This method will cause the affected person to fall unconscious, but still be alive and take an hour or two to recover by using that deep connection to trigger a slow rebuild of their emotions. While they still won't feel very much after waking up, that present emotion will keep them sane and allow them to recover like they were healing from an illness, rather than being completely scooped out. There is, however, one caveat to this method:
If the characters have not bonded in game, it will not work completely and the character will revert back to emotionless after a couple of hours.
There is a reason for that, but it'll reveal itself in time. This means that even if two characters are castmates and had a relationship in their series, it will not hold completely unless they have solidified or deepened that bond while in game.
Those three ways are typically the only three ways to recover characters emotions! If you don't want your character to go through this, you should probably have them somehow avoid getting caught by any of the empty spirits. The effects of this will not simply "wear off" so be sure to find a way to fix your character at some point if you get them caught.

Can we fight the empty spirits and how do we get rid of them?
Yes, you can fight them. They vary in strength. Some can be fought by regular weapons and others are powerful enough that even those with superpowers may find themselves being backed into a corner. Those with eyes and more shape are much more powerful than those without. Throughout the duration of the event, there are a couple with faces who may be tagging actual posts/log threads. If you absolutely do not want your character to encounter one any of these NPCs, please note it in the subject line of any event posts. Otherwise, all non-descript spirits can be played by anyone in the game. Only the mod-run NPC spirits will have the ability to communicate with player characters.

As they are spirits, most weapons won't actually kill them, it will just ward them off and force them to retreat. Magic will be necessary to capture them. Everglade's magic shop has a number of stones and seals the can be used by anyone if used appropriately, though those more adept with magic will be able to seal more powerful ones. Characters who canonly have experience with exorcism or sealing will be able to do this much more easily and may still use their canon methods for doing this. The spirits can be destroyed entirely by someone with soul/spirit-based powers or weaponry. Spirits who are captured will be possibly to keep even after the end of the event. Powerful spirits who are NPCed and captured may speak to their captors in the future, but please keep it IC as to what your character would do with captured spirits.

How do we fix the barrier to stop letting the spirits in through Everglade? How do we keep them from breaking Genessia's barrier field?
There are two spirits that were already within the cities of Genessia and Everglade who can help with this. These spirits are not Player characters need to find them. They are hidden throughout the two cities and throughout the event, if your character goes somewhere specific you can list that location in reply to THIS COMMENT (DAY 2). Both spirits have been found! Thank you for your participation. Characters who found the spirits will be given information to further along the plot and are welcome to spread it as they see fit. The chance to get Everglade's Key Pendant will be presented and decided after both parties are informed ICly of the situation.

If your character goes to the correct location, they have a chance to get a thread with a character. Multiple characters may post a location listing in the thread and each night at 12-midnight PST, any character with the location will be RNG'd to see if they encounter the spirit. Basically, if five characters sign up to say they visited "the bridge in Everglade," then each character will be given a number 1-5, then using a random number generator, the character whose number is selected will get the thread. IF your character is with more than one person, groups may enter together as one entry for the location. One spirit is in each archway. You may enter your character or your character's group for up to two locations per drawing.

Once both spirits have been located, they will give instructions about how to seal the barrier ICly. These spirits cannot move anywhere beyond the area they are in, though they will not always be present upon visiting in the future.

Are subarchways safe? Are the other archways safe?
Subarchways connected to Everglade are not safe. Fayren, Attleton, and Nova City are safe from this event as the focus is on Everglade and Genessia.

Anything else important to know?
The spirits do have a psychic presence, so if you play a telepath and they try to read their thoughts, your character will be rushed by an empty void like a black hole taking away any sense of emotions and be able to feel that all these things want is an intense need to steal sentient emotions. There's a similar feeling to a lesser extent if they try to read a character who has had their emotions drained, though the deep connections (option 3 for saving) may be sensed if this is the case, so telepathic characters may possess the ability to figure out that third option for saving affected characters.

Whoever ends up fixing the barrier in Everglade will be able to get ahold of the Everglade Key Pendant for the new archway in Genessia.

If no one finds the Genessian and Evergladite spirits within a 7 day period, the Genessian barrier will break open and something completely different might happen with the plot than if the residents of Genessia manage to save the day. The fate of Genessia rests in your hands, but I can guarantee you not saving Genessia will not be a happy ending for anyone.

That's fair, those two are pretty capable in their own right.

As far as plans go so far, I believe Midboss will start off keeping things in the arena, then killing Yuuki outside it before getting killed by Laharl. If Bridget wants to step in at any point, I'm sure we can figure something out?

Well, if you're up for a guilt-factor... he could spot Bridget and challenge her, then follow her out when she ignores him and that's how he runs into Yuuki?

That sounds like a pretty good way of tying it all in together. Midboss will not be happy if she shows up and then walks out without accepting his challenge.
