The End

I think it's safe to say that this announcement is predictable, but it's time for Genessia, as a moderated game, to end. However, given how many people still enjoy the setting and want to make use of it, I've elected to leave it open for public use. Anyone can join the comm and use it as a sandbox/dressing room as they see fit (so long as they aren't assholes about it). For those who have stuck through it for better or for worse, thank you so much.

If you want to make use of what was written up for future plots, or learn the secrets behind Genessia's conception since the beginning, read below the cut. Good luck, and I wish you all the best!

Event Progression - Feel free to use this, or ignore it entirely and enjoy a simple jamjar slice-of-life game.
February - Dr. Seek drops the barriers around all the sub-cities, which then become overrun with void spirits and more alien-like creatures. Characters must escape to Genessia City and recuperate, coming up with a plan to restore the other barriers. (The solution was for one character most closely aligned with the values of that sub-scity to be elected as a full-fledged guardian, tying their life force and emotions directly to the city spirit, and using themselves as a living battery to regenerate the shields.)
March - Attleton's restoration (values of peace, cleanliness, order, cooperation)
April - Everglade's restoration (values of fear, courage, adaptation, cool-headedness)
May - Fayren's restoration (values of exploration, creativity, hard work, fun)
June - Nova City's restoration (values of innovation, intelligence, diversity, frugality)
July - It is discovered that the stones in the pendants house the memories of a native of the planet, which players are free to extrapolate upon. They would remember the last days of Genessia's people before they started divesting themselves of their emotions, habits, and memories, stripping themselves slowly away into nothing and becoming the void spirits. It becomes clear that each character is in fact a void spirit married with the emotions/memories/physical form of another person created/copied by the spirits of Genessia City in hopes of restoring the void spirit into a full-functioning planet native once more. The efforts of the spirits have been rarely successful, but those who remain have been considered a near perfect success, and they're tasked with reviving the rest of the planet by correcting the mistakes of the past.
August - Phase II begins with planetary exploration to find the old repositories of stripped away memories and emotions, each of which has been warping the nature and animals around it in concentrated form. Void spirits are a constant threat, but after past efforts to generate the shields, more personal forms would have been made available to shield a character 90% of the way to travel about.

Genessia History
In the wake of a brutal war brought about by political corruption, greed, and hatred, a dedicated group of scientists discovered a way to extract the ability to feel negative emotions (violence, jealousy, anger, despair) from people's minds. It was first tested upon prison inmates, who became quickly reformed, and soon became available to the public. At first it was voluntary, but pressure grew from those affected by crimes and violence to make the operation mandatory. Without these negative emotions in play, it gradually became difficult to identify 'good' emotions from 'bad' ones. The joy of success in winning a sporting event could be seen as arrogant, or condescending. Pride in one's looks or accomplishments could be seen as neglect of values that had more significance. More and more emotions, and later memories, were stripped away in order to avoid negative consequences. Even physical bodies were shed, as they could only result in disease, hunger, use of precious resources, and ultimately...death.

These free-floating spirits no longer felt much of anything. Joy meant nothing without being tempered by sorrow. With no hardships, nothing was earned, and there were no goals, no values for which to fight...nothing at all. They blackened and began to grow starved for the missing pieces of themselves, withering into void spirits -- always hungry for the emotions they could no longer feel. The planet, which shared a symbiotic relationship with the people who lived there, began to wither as well, and gradually became a barren wasteland with very little vegetation and animal life.

A small few number of spirits were able to cling to their emotions and resist the corruption that affected so many others. The head scientist, the last remaining person to maintain a physical body, gathered these last few spirits to watch over a small section of land. He believed that by genetically creating a physical body, and copying the memories and emotions of other living beings throughout the universe into this physical form, that a void spirit could be restored to some semblance of what they once were. He programmed a number of experimental simulations with varying control factors (high degree of danger, perfect safety, all copied beings from one world, all from different worlds, etc.) in the hope that one of them would lead to success. In his physical form, however, he knew he would inevitably age and die, so he put himself into cryogenic storage that would release him once the planet reached a certain threshold of thriving flora and fauna. The experiment 'Genessia' proved to be the first to do so, awakening the scientist, who then went on to create Windgate Creek as a sort of 'gateway' between the world at large and the holographic simulation of Genessia City. After he was able to genetically create several animals and plants, he allowed access to this place, hiding the rundown nature of Windgate Creek with more holographic illusions. Everything about it is real, however, unlike the other areas of the city and sub-cities. He remains there disguised as one of the townsfolk.

And there you have it, all the deep dark secrets of the game. Feel free to keep running with it, or pretend it never happened and keep on keepin' on. Thanks for the good times and good memories!
