Event: Portal To Somewhere

May 3rd - May 12th
Something strange has appeared in Genessia City: A portal of swirling colours, that leads to another place. Those who step too close may feel a strange pull, as if urging them to enter. On the other side is what looks to be a Wild West town… Innocent enough at first glance, but be careful. Who knows what could be lurking in the shadows?
What’s Going On?
Starting on May 3rd, characters will find a strange portal by The Bay in Genessia City. A loud boom in Genessia City will herald its appearance and vibrations from that boom can be felt all over Genessia. When they step too close, they may feel a “pull” urging them to go through it. On the other side is a mysterious town:
Catan’s Settle
. The town looks like it came from a Wild West movie, and it’s in shambles. A broken sign on the ground below one of the entrances to the town will actually let people see its name. No one seems to be living here. Except monsters. But that’s fine since they’re only dangerous and will attempt to kill anyone that they see. There are Monsters?
Yes, monsters! This old town is crawling with them for whatever reason and there doesn’t seem to be an end to them/. They aren’t just in the town proper, but in the areas expanding beyond the city limits.
The monsters will all appear slightly larger than human sized as well as appearing larger than that. They might have different features like appearing insectoid like or have hard shells or thick hard to penetrate skin. Multiple mouths or multiple arms. They will look to be varying levels of nightmare fuel. They will appear in greater numbers as days pass and become stronger and far more aggressive.
They can be killed, however, when they are killed, people fall out of the monster’s husk. Nothing can be done to wake these people, and attempting to take them through the portal will result in them disappearing.
Can my character stay and clear them out?
If characters spend too long inside of the Portal, they will begin to lose their memories. They will begin to take on new memories in their place, and gradually come to think of themselves as a new person. Whether this is a permanent thing or if it can be reversed is unknown, but any psychic or people with mental abilities examining someone that this process has been completed on won’t find any trace of the original person.
This isn’t something that can happen to a character without Mod approval first, so if you would like this to happen, contact us beforehand. There will also be a general log made for characters to tag into. But you are also free to you’re your own posts and logs. Characters will be able to investigate the ongoings of the town if they wish in an attempt to figure out what is going on and why it is in this state.
Do I have to participate?
Nope. This event is completely optional.
How does my character go about searching?
There will be a separate post with a sign-up and explanation. That post can be found here.
MSC. QUESTIONS:
Can my character examine the portal? What will they find out?
It will be impossible to get any concrete read on it. Even using devices or such that could typically analyze something like that, it will throw by nonsense numbers and letters in no real decipherable manner. Any sources of energy that get near it will start to find its power drained. The buildings closest to the portal won’t even have power after the first hour.
The portal will start to appear less and less stable as the days go on with the intensity of it growing like it might be amassing energy. It might appear like it could collapse or something far worse could happen with the building energy.
On the fourth day of the event, the monsters from in the portal will start to appear as ghostly images in cities. They will try to attack anyone that they see, but can’t hurt anyone or be hurt by anyone. And after 10 or so seconds, they will disappear.
My character reads minds! What can they find out?
They can try to read their minds or somehow glean information from them in some way, but once they try, they will be bombarded and overwhelmed with thoughts and names that aren’t there own to the point where they start to lose a sense of their own self. Even when a person has fallen from the Monster’s Husk, this will still happen. Nothing will seem to be able to wake the person either, though their vitals will clearly show them as being alive.
Can the people/monsters be taken by through the portal?
They can try to take them through the portal back to Genessia City, but they will disappear as soon as they step through it.
How long can my character stay before it becomes too dangerous?
Characters can stay within the portal for at least 12 hours total for a single day.
Are there any places of interest my character can look in?
Condor’s Canyon: A large Canyon to the south of town. Think something similar to the Grand Canyon, but not as big.
Cactus Grove: A large forest of cactuses. There are a lot of them and some are actually as tall a trees. But be careful, their pricks really hurt a lot.
Dry Mouth Well: A well just outside of the town. It goes down deep and there doesn’t appear to be a drop of water in it. It seems to have been that way for a very long time now.
Quarry: A large rock quarry with old and broken mining equipment lying around. There are many entrances leading inside of it.
Quarry Mines: This place has seemingly been picked dry. There are many winding and narrow paths in it and if you aren’t careful, you might get lost.
Blindside Lake: A lake near the Quarry, at least, it used to be a lake. All of the water has since dried up, though its easy to tell that this location used to be a lake.
Jim’s Hunter Shop: A standalone shop outside of town near the Cactus Grove. Rusted and broken skinning knives among other hunting tools can be found inside of this place.
Blackstone Cattle Ranch: A rundown ranch featuring a large barn where horses used to be kept. While no livestock is there now, the stables that they used to be kept in are easily noticeable as is old farming equipment that the owners used to use to tend to the land.
Heaven's Sanctuary Church: An old abandoned church near a graveyard. The doors are broken in and the glass that used to reside in the windows are non-existent.
Eternal Rest Graveyard: A graveyard near an old abandoned church. The gravestones that can be seen are broken and cracked, though oddly no names can be seen on the stones.
Any additional information?
An open log will be posted on the day of the event. It isn't mandatory to participate in that specific log. Players are free to make their own logs or posts pertaining to the event.
