WELCOME TO GENESSIA: THE BAY

Starting Point
Characters new to the city awaken within The Bay with a vague sense of having slept for too long and the grogginess that typically accompanies such a thing. They will be lying in a slightly-tilted cocoon of silver metal lined with silk and soft padding. The entire Bay is covered in about two inches of clear water, with multiple white lights throughout that dimly illuminate the enormous domed cavern of dark gray stone. There are twelve archways that all lead to the city outside. A simple white box lies on the character's chest, containing the essentials: a jeweled necklace of gold and opalescent stones (with one particular color more prominent than the others to identify which city the character may expand if they so choose), what appears to be a smart phone, a key, and a pamphlet. The pamphlet's cover states simply: 'Welcome to Genessia'. All of these items are crafted to the appropriate size for the new character. The Bay is located at the very heart of Genessia City.

The pamphlet first explains the smart phone, explaining it as a cross-city communication device, with easy instructions about how to communicate via text, audio, and/or video, and how to transmit privately, and also encourages the character to give it a try once he or she leaves the Bay. The necklace, the pamphlet goes on to further explain, is required in order to pass from Genessia City to one of the other four cities, and should be worn at all times not only to allow this ease of transportation, but to identify the owner to others in the city as 'real'. The key has a room number on it, and an address on the same street characters enter out onto upon exiting the Bay and the words "Genessia Commonspace" on one side of the key (unless you opted to choose one of the apartment buildings). The last fold in the pamphlet has a thick manila folder, where several red bills are stacked and bound by a white ribbon. The pamphlet states that this is the main currency for Genessia City in order to purchase room, board, and other necessities. It encourages the character to apply for a job in order to earn more if they so desire.

Just outside of every entrance to the Bay, new arrivals will find a magazine stand. The stand is stacked with brochures containing labeled maps of the primary city of Genessia. Next to the magazine rack is a rather high-tech looking stand that upon being approached, activates with the holographic projected image of a swarthy young man in a finely made dark blue suit, a long black ponytail down his back. He gives a brief bow and begins to speak, and subtitles in the common language of Genessia began to scroll along the bottom of the hologram.
"Greetings to you. My name is Roland Crane, mayor of Genessia City as of the time of this recording, and on behalf of Genessia and Schnee Company, I welcome you to Genessia. I'm afraid I'll have to ask for your full attention for a few minutes, as I have a lot to explain, and won't be able to respond to any questions you have as again, this is only a recording.

"Genessia is a self-contained world that pulls in inhabitants of all sorts of worlds, including you and me. The pendant you were provided with upon arriving marks you as a guest of Genessia, and you mustn't lose it for any reason, as it serves as your key to travel between regions and can't be replaced." As Roland explains the pendant, an enlarged hologram depicting one pops up beside him, rotating slowly in place before fading away.

"The device you've been given is important as well, as it allows you to communicate with others at great distances. It can be replaced, unlike your pendant, but it's expensive to do so, so try not to lose or break it." Again, a large model showing what Roland's talking about appears briefly beside him.

"There are six main regions in Genessia. The first is Genessia City, where you stand now, that serves as a central hub. Nova City is a place of advanced science and technology. Fayren is a land of magic and nature. In Everglade, undead and other creatures of the night roam freely. Attleton is a place of relative normality, compared to the other cities, but then again, that might depend on what's normal for your world. Finally, Windgate Creek only appeared recently, and we don't know as much about it.

"We might not be in our own worlds anymore, but with the help of the natives, we've maintained a thriving society where a normal, peaceful life is possible for anyone. I ask that you not entertain any ideas of disturbing that peace, as we're more than able to protect it against all comers.

"Now, I've gone on for long enough, so I'll wrap up here. More information is provided in the reading materials nearby," Roland waves an arm at the nearby magazine racks, and a large holographic arrow pops up if that wasn't enough, "and you're welcome to ask questions at any Schnee Company location or over the network. Again, welcome to Genessia, and I hope you enjoy your stay." Roland bows one final time, and the hologram winks out.

If the hologram is tampered with, a strange gas will be released from the device. It seems to be a gas that knocks biological creatures unconscious. The device also calls law enforcement for destruction of property charges.

Would you like to add a new location to the game? Most locations can be handwaved, like if there's a Chinese food place your character goes to once or something for a one time thread, but if you want to add a specific location that your character may frequent or you need for various purposes, you can add it here! You can also open subarchways. It's easy! Reply to this post with the correct form:

NOTICE REGARDING SUBARCHWAYS: Subarchways will not be approved if the only description provided is an outside link. You MUST provide a short single-paragraph summary in order to have your subarchway approved. This is in order to help all players who may not be familiar with canon able to quickly see what the subarchway is without having to spend hours reading wiki links. You may still include a link for further details, but it cannot be the only thing submitted to open a subarchway. Thank you for your cooperation.

If you are trying to open a character-run business, please reply to the employment page instead.

Character: Regina Mills
Username: [personal profile] fondofapples
Which Archway is this Subarchway being established under? Fayren
Subarchway Location: The Queen's Castle, the Royal Manor, and surrounding countryside (Misthaven/Enchanted Forest)
Location Details: In the time between Leopold's murder and Regina's ascension to Evil Queen, Misthaven remained places of grace, color and light. Regina remembers them well, although often as places of pain and humiliation for her. She would like to open a subarchway to Misthaven/the Enchanted Forest; not all of it, certainly, as it's as large as a modern country. Specifically, Regina would like to restore the Castle, the Royal Manor, and some of the surrounding countryside, specifically the woods and mountains, including Firefly Hill overlooking the water.

King Leopold's palace, later Regina's own, is a peculiar construction set in the foothills of Misthaven's majestic mountains. Although the inside is a fairly traditional stone palace with a dining room that can seat well over one hundred souls, beautiful tapestries, soaring archways and stained glass windows, the exterior bristles with soaring blades, presumably designed to prevent dragon and ogre attacks. In the grasslands where the foothills dip into green farmlands sits the large royal manor where Regina was raised. Past the heavily forested hills beyond lies a port from which a young Regina often dreamed of escaping, but more importantly, a favored spot for lovers, known as Firefly Hill from which the port can be seen. The port itself is little more than a backdrop as in a painting but the fireflies and the view from the hill remains.

The area encompassed is filled with animals and some few dangerous beasts, but comparatively few humans. There is no village, no town, no market, and only the people necessary to maintain the castle and the manor.

Price Character is Paying for Archway: Regina is giving up her ability to see herself in a mirror. Although Regina is not as vain as the cartoon Disney version of herself, for large portions of her life, her mirror has been literally her only reliable friend, whether or not it possessed a particular genie at the time. Mirrors are also how she inspects her countenance to ensure her expressions convey what she wants them to. There's also the mundane issues of makeup and making sure you're not trailing toilet paper, and so on. Although she won't be able to see herself in darkened glasses either, she will retain the ability to see herself in a photo or video, but these are vastly inferior and frankly, a pain in the arse. Not being able to see herself in a mirror will force her to rely on others more and (probably) make her less concerned about her appearance.

If this is judged insufficient, there is a set of memories she could give up. But I prefer the mirrors, because they're thematic, and it opens up small but potentially significant plot moments.

When they open a subarchway, can they change things in it? Like add buildings or change decoration of existing buildings?

I still want to do this, but can I put it on hold until after the Halloween plot and everything? I want to have time to play it out properly.

Which Archway is this Subarchway being established under? Attleton
Subarchway Location: Oak Tree Town
Location Details: A peaceful country village with a thriving farming community! The streets of the main town are cobbled and well-maintained, with little landscaping touches here and there to make it relaxing and pretty. One can visit a carpenter's shop, an antique shop, a restaurant, a general store, or head to the main plaza where different vendors come to call from foreign lands. There's a comfortable inn with two vacant rooms for rent should someone wish to stay in town for a while. At the guild hall there's a doctor's clinic as well as a registration desk where farmers can sign up to take their livestock on safari to a relaxing, lush green field filled with exotic animals and plenty of places for miners to pick up some ores and gems. Outside of town the roads are dusty and there are all kinds of insects to catch. A lazy river winds past providing plenty of water for the fields. Not only is it safe to swim here, but it's also great for fishing. Just don't fill it with trash! Following the dusty road, one can see the various specialty fields meant for growing certain crops. If one is particularly good-hearted or has supernatural senses, they might even see the tiny Harvest Sprites visiting the fields, though they typically don't interact much with humans. At the end of the dusty road is Annie's pride and joy, the Home Farm, where animals graze on large patches of grass, and a series of little manufacturing sheds quaintly designed to resemble their purpose are lined up in a row and humming along as they process raw goods into finished products. There are lots of fruit trees and seasonal crops, and four greenhouses set up to simulate each season so that crops can be harvested year-round. The seasons pass much more quickly here than they do in the real world, each one lasting only a month. So it's entirely possible to escape the winter cold of Attleton and bask in the hot summer heat if the months line up right!
Price Character is Paying for Archway: Annie is giving up her book of collected blueprints and her master-level farming tools.

Which Archway is this Subarchway being established under? Fayren
Subarchway Location: Serenes Castle and a part of Serenes forest.
Location Details: Serenes forest is a paradise which emits peaceful and healing aura to all who enters it. It is always Springtime and the forest itself is alive for those who can sense ancient souls. It is a holy place where the prime rule of no bloodshed is allowed can be felt. Deep within the forest, there are stone homes littered about but at the center of it all is castle. Not a grand one like most human castles but for Herons within Serenes, it is grand enough with no gates or structures to block access to it. It is around 4 stories tall with a couple of basement levels. It is filled with multiple rooms for living, studying and grooming. There is only one kitchen and dining room which is close to the audience chamber. Each living quarter has it's own balcony. There would be some Herons living in the castle as maids and servants, each one with different colored hair and wings but not a single one with blonde hair and white wings.
Price Character is Paying for Archway: Her singing ability. For a Heron, singing is their main way to cast their Galdrar magic and also it is a huge part of their identity, their soul and their spirit.

Added to Nova City

NOTE: Unfortunately, after some discussion with the rest of the mod team, we have come to the conclusion that Lux would not be able to pay salary or make money due to its location being inside a sub archway. This is because the citizens of Nova would be unable to travel into the subarchway, and the pendant bearers would not be able to sustain an income to support it. It can still exist within the subarchway of course, but it cannot be used as a job or source of income, unfortunately.

That's okay! It's still home. <3 Chloe's got her police work, Lucifer's got some night club gigs, so we're good!

This subarch is approved, but before it can be opened and added to the location page, may we please get a bit more of a description of the city itself? We'd like about a paragraph of flavor text. A link to a wiki may be included for those seeking more detail. Thank you!

King's Landing ( https://gameofthrones.fandom.com/wiki/King%27s_Landing ) is the largest city within the Seven Kingdoms with a population of approximately 500,000. It is located on a bay called the Blackwater and, usually, the weather is quite warm, however since Winter has come, the ruins of the city are covered in ash and snow. This ( https://external-preview.redd.it/IVpsKg6BsIc_Bu_8XbJM8G319rDqv1JIvajHiAXK31A.jpg?auto=webp&s=d89e3a08f7465886845a2f8f94fee0583159b974 ) is a map of the layout of the city and, as you can see, The Great Sept of Baelor is at the very center - or, rather, it was before its explosion. Then on one of the far ends, near Flea Bottom and bordered by the Blackwater Bay is the Red Keep - otherwise known as the location of the Iron Throne.

Of course the buildings, houses, monuments and so forth as basically in ruins now thanks to Daenerys and Drogon. The entire city was more or less set ablaze by dragon-fire and tens of thousands of people died. Furthermore, after Daenerys's death, Drogon melted the Iron Throne. But the city is still an impressive, if ghostly, sight.
